Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

You ran more miles than me this morning!

Happy the achy's are gone! Dork question. How do you know you are running the 1/2 miles at a certain pace? By feel?

Excellent. The old mileage, it is a-building!

Teena - I want to pick your mind...what type of hip weakness/dysfunction might cause me to have distal hamstring pain?

Amiee - I just use the Garmin...split the watch at a half mile.

Jason - I was planning out my training, assuming gradual progression and it is still going to take me until Nov/Dec to get up to 50 mpw! As long as I keep seeing progress I'll be happy though :)

Ha! Guess I have to get out my owner's manual. I wonder if I can set it to .001K splits.

Andrea~

Could be lots of things. For whatever reason, many times when I read your blog I find myself wondering if your back was ever thoroughly examined. I remember you telling me you had an MRI or something done but I can't remember what the results stated. L2-L5 is what I would be curious about.

Just out of curiousity, was this ever looked at? Did you ever try a McKenzie extension type protocol at any time?

With that said, could be so many different things. For example: an anteriorly tilted pelvis due to an imbalance in the core musculature could cause hamstring pain.

I'd be happy to sit and brainstorm with you if we could work out a time that it would work for both of us. We're leaving for Cali early Saturday morning.

Nice, Andrea! Those rest days can be hard to take coming back. I bet it was a nice reward to pick up the pace for half mile repeats!
