Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 30 minutes on the exercise bike, then 15 minutes on the treadmill at 9 min pace. The slower I run, the less I have to push off with my forefoot and then less pain. Maybe I'll be putting in some slow jogs more this week. I wonder if that'll help or hurt...

PM - Strength training 20 min during lunch - Jilian Michael's workout. It was actually pretty good! After work,10 min on the elliptical followed by 30 min of spin class.

Happy Mardi Gras! I'm debating what I should give up for Lent this year. I used to always give up chocolate and ice cream, but I have recently become a candy addict. Hmm..maybe I'll do ice cream and candy this year. That's going to be hard! Frozen yogurt doesn't count as ice cream, right?

What about slow jogs with a HIGH incline? Have you tried that yet?

From Jake K on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 08:45:50 from 155.100.226.54

Oh and I will bet you $50 you can't give up both chocolate AND ice cream :-)

From Andrea on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 08:46:55 from 72.37.244.100

Yes I tried that today. But it forces me to run on the ball of my feet exactly where the pain is. Maybe Dr. Fletcher will have the magical solution when I go see him today.

Yeah then don't do that - slow jogs is better than no running!

From Andrea on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 08:49:36 from 72.37.244.100

I bet you $50 you can't give up candy for two weeks!

Hey, you're finally running at my pace. :) Don't give up ice cream and candy. That would be horrible.

From Rachelle on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 10:24:57 from 199.190.170.24

Oh no!!! You must not give up icecream!! Just give up chocolate don't give up both.

Or give up broccoli? Thats are hard thing to quit right....

From runningafterbabies on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 13:24:14 from 71.195.219.247

Candy, chocolate, icecream. You guys are killing me. I couldn't give up any of those for more than a week. Maybe a rotating schedule would work the best!

From Jake K on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 13:27:46 from 155.100.226.54

I like that idea Melody - just give up one at a time, for no more than a day at a time! :-)

From Hamdog Alum on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 14:31:28 from 66.188.108.30

DON'T GIVE UP ICECREAM (it's important fuel)! Maybe you could plan to do 1 good deed for someone each week. :-)

From Andrea on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 14:34:27 from 72.37.244.100

Hmm..one good deed. I guess I'll make Jake an ice bath once a week :o)

I am giving up refined sugar - it is going to be super fun! Anyone want to join me?

From ACorn on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 16:56:48 from 24.2.76.146

Am I missing something? Isn't one of the main reasons we run is so that we can eat junk.

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 23, 2012 at 20:24:34 from 71.219.85.126

AMEN ACORN!!

If you go the ice cream route, then, NO, frozen yogurt is not ice cream!
