I started this blog today. I am currently training for two 5k races - one July 4th and one August 8th. I really want to break 22 minutes, so I am reevaluating my training, and nutrition. My problem has been inconsistency. Also I believe too much speed work, without enough aerobic base, although I ran approximately 30 to 40 miles a week all winter. I suffered a knee injury right before I began anaerobic training which had me out for 2 weeks (chondromalacia). This re-occurring problem is currently in remission due to a painstaking regimen of ice, advil, and stretching. This first year back to running since high school is sort of an experiment for me in terms of what works and what doesn't work with my training, but I am committed to improvement every step of the way. I just know I have what it takes to break 20 minutes one day. |
