Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

SW today.  Warmed up a mile, then

6 reps: 1/4 mile @ 7 mph, with 1/8 mile recoveries

3 reps: 1/2 mile @ 6.5 mph, with 1/4 mile recoveries

Finished running ~ 5.5 mph

I felt good running today, but was short on time so I didn't do any stretching afterwards.  Hope I don't pay for that!!

I also struggle to get stretching done because I'm short on time. I guess I need to make it more of a priority.

Nice workout today. Was that on a TM our outside?

Hi Carolyn. This morning's run was on a TM. I don't have a great track near here for workouts. There is the soccer field track close by, but I'm a bit self conscious running there if a bunch of school kids are using it for PE/recess.

I try to stretch regularly after my runs now, although I never ever stretched when I was younger! It's my feeling (& hope!!) that stretching will help keep those nagging injuries at bay...

I try to do dynamic stretching before a run and static stretching after, particularly if it's a long or difficult run. I'm a little better about doing the dynamic stretching before. For example, I manage to do the dynamic stretching before the run, but was in a rush when I got home and missed the dynamic stretching afterwards. I did ice my foot a litle, though.

Nice SW! I am terrible about stretching--maybe 3 minutes or so after each run!

I always feel guilty about being a bad stretcher. It's hard to make it a priority when there's so much else to do!

Great intervals today!

The paces are crawling up there!! Was that the 2nd time with 7mph in there? YEAH, you are getting faster and faster!

I never have time to stretch. Wait, I do. i am just LAZY.

Yeah, I have to work on that speed - you gals have set the bar pretty darn high!! BTW, when you all get older, you'll appreciate the benefits of stretching!!

Like I said, I am LAZY!!! But, I do my Yoga class once a week and i stretch sometimes while watching TV at night. I need to be better at it, it is very important!
