Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

Morning run up to PA 8 in city creek, then I decided to run back out of city creek using the meandering trail to the west of the main road.  It was nice running on the trail, but it dumped me out on the main bonneville road so I didn't go by my normal water fountain (which I missed more than I thought I would!).  I headed home so I could get a drink and start some laundry and water sprinklers, and then did 3.75 miles more on my treadmill.

Ramped up the speed a little on the TM so that I ran the middle 2.25 miles at a 10 minute mile pace.  That used to be my tempo speed, but I think I need to bump my tempo speed up a little because while that pace is faster than the very leisurely pace I have been running lately, it really didn't seem quite hard enough to consider it a tempo pace.  (I've just been running slow and lazy for about a month now, and need to incorporate some faster running each week; it's time to try to speed up my old body!)

NOW, that is a great sign that your tempo pace now feels too slow! Gotta love that!

Sounds like some great mileage on a great weekend. Also, the plan for speed is well overdue. I hope it treats you well.

Kelli - Thanks. I'm happy to see I haven't lost all my conditioning!

Adam - Yes, my plan for speedwork is overdue for sure!! (I really enjoyed all my slow runs up city creek last month though!)
