Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. Not much to say today. We're still at the family reunion, but we're coming back tomorrow, so tomorrow night I should be able to get in a ten or eleven mile run. Half marathon is in thirteen days from today, and I definitely don't feel ready, but hopefully this week I can get in 60+ miles, and that will help.

Got home from the family reunion today, but I'm sick with a sore throat and stuffy nose.....too sick to go running, so I was forced to take the day off.

Still sick. I really want to run but don't think it's a good idea. I'm not super sick, but I don't think running would help me get better. It would probably make it worse.

Still sick. With every day that goes by without running, I just think of how this is going to affect my half marathon time next Saturday. I'm at the point where I'm saying that I'm going running tomorrow, unless I'm sicker tomorrow than I am today, which won't happen. I have to get out tomorrow.

I was still sick today, but I couldn't skip another day of running, especially with the half marathon next week, so I just decided to go and see how I felt. I felt pretty much normal and my cold didn't really affect me at all, which means that I probably could have been running this whole week. That's good to know for next time. I ran 9.61 miles at 6:37/mile pace, so it was tough, but I actually felt really good until the last half mile or so.

Long run day. Since I have my GPS watch I know exactly how far I'm going now. I decided just to run nine miles from my apartment straight up Provo canyon, and I got about a mile past Bridal Veil falls when I hit the nine mile mark, and then turned back around. For the first 14 miles, I averaged 7:00/mile, but I completely collapsed on the last four miles, which were about 8:00 minute pace, so my average pace was 7:27/mile. I feel really good about that though. It was a good run.
