Deseret News Marathon

Began race at slower than usual pace because I didnt want to hurt myself too much on the downhill. Felt great until I got out of Emigration Canyon. Calfs began to tighten up on me. Wasatch Drive was very uneven and did a number on my ankles. On Foothill Drive my calves began cramping I had to stretch them every 6-7 minutes or so. This is not a common feeling to me! With less than 5 miles left I twisted my knee while trying to stretch out my calf, this slowed me down signficantly, had to walk some. Finaly finished at 3:59, I was shooting for a 3:20.

I can barley move. Took the day off, will not run until I feel 100% better.

Are you running yet?

From Brent on Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 18:18:09

Jagger, your problems at Des News seem like dehydration? Enough salt? Anyway, good luck on your recovery. You certainly have the 1/2 marathon speed at Moab to have a shot at breaking 3 hours at St. George.

Back from vacation. Ran a liitle while gone, but nothing too long or hard. Felt good on 7 mile run today, long trail run scheduled for tomorrow.

Adam, seems you have recovered from DesNews, tough marathon with all the downhill. Are you running St. George? ACDC is great.

From ArmyRunner on Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 18:12:43

Adam,

Yes, that is the route. From FH turn on 800 N at Brick Oven and jump on trail at bridge. The 1 mile mark is at the ward building just before the bridge. It is about 1.65 miles to the spot wear Sasha and I normally get on the trail (2.1 miles to Sasha's house). If you keep going straight I would think the 4.05 mile mark would be just before the 1.5 mile mark down the trail from Geneva Road (the sixth set of 4 triangles).

I was Ex. Sci for a while too! But then I converted to Rec. Mgt. You ARE in the RB&SFH a lot too. Crazy! Hey, thanks so much for the tips. I will do that. It's so encouraging. i just started a new job from 8-12A and it will be more difficult to run in the morn, but i will definitely start running outside more. Is is bad to run at night? And if i do, are there standards of running before or after you eat? How does eating before or after affect running? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for your comment, Adam. I live in Capitol Hill and work in Georgetown, so the Mall is my playground - check out the news before you come down here though, there's always some event going on at the Mall that can mess up your run. Let me know if you need advice on where to go around here - I'd offer to go for a run with you but you are waaaaay too fast for me!
