Personal:

I'm married to Nan Kennard and she kicks my butt at running.  She has beat me handily in every race we have done together except for a downhill mile we did once.  She is my running inspiration.  I'd like to run a marathon with her someday and actually keep up.

Just taking it easy.  My legs feel fine.  My right glut still has some sore muscles, but it doesn't hurt at all to run, and I haven't felt any hip pain while running.

be careful with your calves too running in the five fingers. I had troubles with my calves last fall as I increased my miles for the marathon, but my hip was fine due to the exercises I have been doing. I found a good solution to help the calves is to wear a pair of cheap neoprene compression calf supports when I run. they give more support than a compression sock, don't slip down, and they are a lot cheaper too. these are the ones I wear, brand mcdavid, in a size medium:

oh, I forgot, the only downside of them is that they really stink after you run in them and absorb sweat like a sponge. but another plus is you can stuff ice cubes or snow in them when done running to ice the calf or shin if you have problems with them (like I do)

Perfect! good job to pick that up early and slow it down a little rather than run yourself into a serious injury. Still planning on running 30 next week?

Thanks redrooster. I haven't had any calf issues at all, but we'll see as I keep building mileage how that goes.

Bryce - we'll see about the 30 next week. The jury is still out. I wanted to do 3 loops on my favorite trail with about 6000 feet of climbing over 30 miles. I don't think that would be the 'wisest' decision at my current ability level...sure does sound like a fun challenge though. I may do a long flatter run...or I may wait a week or two longer and keep building up. I don't know yet...it depends on how I'm feeling.
