Short-Term Running Goals:

Get fit again! Casper Marathon on June 8th in Casper, Wyoming. I don't have a specific goal time for it, as I don't know the course real well, but I'd like to shoot for 6 minute pace.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run for your life! Stay active enough to eat seconds and ice cream without guilt.

Personal:

Married to a beautiful wife AnnMarie, who is also a 3:15 marathoner and the mother of our handsome 2 year old, Myles and newbie Sullivan. Sullivant was born 2 years and one day after Myles was born. Myles knows only one speed--running all out. Kinda like Prefontaine.  Besides running, I enjoy reading, woodworking, fishing, and chasing Myles around our house.

Another 5 on the treadmill, in the cooker of a room with the fireplace blazing. Watched part of "Where the Red Fern Grows". Not your typical training movie, but it does have special meaning to where I currently live. The main character in the movie "Billy Coleman" is played by Stewart Petersen, who lives here in Cokeville. He was in a handful of other movies, and for those LDS bloggers on here, you will recognize him from a couple church videos. Anyhow, he's a great guy and I teach two of his daughters at school. Check out the movie, if it doesn't motivate you to have a pet, it will make you cry because the two dogs in the movie die.

To answer wheakory's question, I'm not sure if I'm going to shoot for my same fitness level I previously held. I hope things work out where I can--there are loads of guys in their early to mid 30s who are competing just fine, I don't see why I can't be one of them. Or at least try.

Joe - I think you still have a 2:16 in you (at least). It will not be easy, will require some discipline, sacrifice, and soul searching, but it will happen if you really put 100% focus into it. I would go even further with this - if your Quality X has not been lost, or in other words if your latest slow-down is purely caused by the increased weight and loss of aerobic fitness - then the fix is simple. Just start putting in consistently high miles, sleep well, eat right, and in two years you should be running 2:16. If some Quality X was lost, things are more difficult, but still doable. Paul pulled it off - his Quality X came back.

I concur with Sasha looking at your previous times, if your dedication is there you can regain your previous fitness.

I know I won't see that time, but it would be exciting to see you do it so why not go for it. Have a good week of building that aerobic base.
