Personal:

Born in 1973 in Southern California.

Ran in high school for Arcadia. They have a famous cross-country team now. In my day, we were famous for dodging our coach during runs.

Over the next 15 years I ran very little, but life was awesome. I lived mostly in Northern California, where I met my wife. We moved back to her native state of Florida in 2005, where I gradually started running more seriously.

So I haven't run since Monday. Every day this week my ankle felt a bit better, but there's still something not right when I put pressure on that leg by jumping, twisting or running. I have a doc appt Tuesday, which I'm hoping to be able to cancel.

In othe times I would probably have gone nuts with Google trying to self-diagnose, but this time the issue was acute enough I couldn't do anything with whatever half-baked theory I drummed up. So I've just been a bit checked out and focused on other things, but I'm getting antsy to start training again.

Any official diagnosis from the doctor, Drew?

Hope you are recovering ok. Haven't heard from you lately...life must be busy.

I've seen a few mentions on Mike's blog that you've been out and about. You're missed. I enjoy watching your training and non-training related posts.

Thanks for checking in guys, I really appreciate it.

I haven't been running much. Most of my runs have been to see friends, so it could give a false impression that I'm training as usual...sadly, I'm just not.

At first, it was a combination of injuries and burnout. And then it became more insidious - I started to really enjoy sleeping in, and not being as tired. I got involved in developing a new product at work, and threw a lot of my OCD impulses into that.

But it's come with a cost - I've put on 20lbs over the last 6 months. My fitness has fallen apart and I'm not happy with the way I look or feel a lot of the time. But I'm sure I could come to terms with that with time.

I want to get back to my running routine, and I've had some brief stretches of good training, but I haven't been able to sustain it. And getting back into shape in the Florida summer is not fun.

I did run 5 miles with Quint at lunch today, and with cruelty and malice he got me to run one of those miles sub-6:00 pace. It was awful. But I wanted to put down at least one positive note.

I signed up for Chicago a few months ago - a whole lot of friends are going. I'm planning to, but I don't have much interest in just dialing it in. If I want to run credibly, it's past time to get moving.

I miss posting and following everyone, but I can't stand my constant lack of positive training to report. As soon as I can get my training back on track, literally and figuratively, I'll be jumping back in.
