Today I ran 9.2 miles at a 7:14 pace faster than I wanted to, but they felt easy.  Today is just setting up for tomorrows 18 miler where 12 miles will be at marathon pace.  I was tired this morning I had to be at work by 6:50, because Idaho Power was shutting down power at our University, and I had to make sure that our systems would be okay on the backup APS power units, or else we would starting shutting them down if Idaho Power took too long.   Our battery backups will hold the power for 25 minutes.   Idaho Power only had the power off for 9 minutes.

Rather than go back to my office... I did my run at 8:30am.  I feel really tired today I need to get to bed early for the run tomorrow.

You have had a good week of training this week that shows you are rounding into pretty good shape for your marathon. I think I agree with Sasha that you are in better shape than you think you are marathon wise. I would also think 6:15 pace for a marathon. If all goes well 2:40-45 is well within your range right now.

As far as Boston goes and hills. I really think if one has trained properly for Boston and the weather cooperates you can run a fast time. When I say train properly I do not think the uphill training is generally the issue for most. Actually I think one needs to get more sustained gradual downhill running in to save the legs. Heartbreak Hill in and of itslef is really not that big of a hill. However, prior to that you will have done a lot of gradual downhill running and the hill comes late enough in the race that your legs will be beat up from the downhill if not trained for it. So. my recommendation is to make sure you get a few good downhill runs in. The longer the sections of downhill the better. It does not need to be steep but again the longer the better. A few runs of this nature can make a difference in the legs being fresher come Heartbreak Hill. Once over Heartbreak Hill area it is gradual down again so if legs are ok at this point you can fly. Even if you feel good before Heartbreak Hill I would purposely hold back and stick with a planned pace. If you feel good after the hills then feel free to push it faster than planned pace if you can at that point. I really enjoyed the Boston experience although it was a miserable day weather wise with temps above 90'F the day I ran. The start area is pretty crazy and you need to just find a spot in the shade or under a tent and crash before the race because you have to arrive so early. There is a lot of waiting around that is not ideal for running a marathon but as long as you take it easy and crash you should be ok. Also, take something to sit or lay on as those that were smarter than me seemed much more comfortable sitting on a pad or blanket of some sort than I did siting on the ground. Of course you will probably never see that item again so make sure it is something not to expensive. I hope all of this helps and wish you the best of luck at Boston. Again, I think you are ready to run at least a 2:45!
