Today I did my long run on the Pocatello Marathon course, and it was good test to see how I felt after last weeks marathon.  It's funny to start the course and your running by yourself where last week I ran the course with 260 runners.  I started around 7:15am and I had to be done by at least 8:35am, because my wife was picking me up, but she had to be at church at10am.  I had to take my daughter to one of her two soccer games today at 10:30am

I ran 12.07 miles at a 6:22 pace in 1:16.  First miles were good warm-ups at (6:44, 6:36), than I start MP miles faster than when I ran the race last week (6:29, 6:26, 6:21, 6:21, 6:21, 6:28).  Okay, now I wanted to average around 6 minute pace for the next three miles to see how I really felt.  The next three miles are exactly what I wanted to accomplish, and I did it with little effort (6:02, 6:01, 5:58).  This was very encouraging for TOU next week.

I really need to trust my ability to run fast, because for some reason I seem to take the conservative route in marathons.  I hit the wall in my first one and I think that has always haunted me.  I would really be happy if I can get under 2:50 next week.

The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble, and he knowth them that trust in him. Nahum 1:7

I'm going to trust in the Lord next Saturday when I run.

Kory,

Yet another sign that the fitness is there and you are looking like you are recovered and ready for TOU. If you go with that pace group at 6:00 pace I really believe you will do great and have a good shot a that sub 2:40 on a good day. Either way I still predict no slower than a 2:43! Like you said trust in the Lord but also know that you are ready and have done the work.

Kory,

That's an impressive run you had yesterday, especially those 6:00 miles you describe as not taking much effort. I think it was a good test for you a week after Pocatello and it indicates you're going to be ready for TOU. I feel you'll go well under 2:50 next week, and good luck.

John
