I ran the Pocatello Marathon course today for 18.5 miles taking it easy at a overall 7:04 pace.  I did run the first three faster (6:43, 6:39, 6:36) then I met up with a runner who was sticking around a 7:10 to 7 mile pace so I ran with him the next 10 miles which was great conversation.   This was going to be an aerobic run today, but I probably would have ran faster if I didn't meet up with someone so that was good.

He stopped running after 13 miles so I kept going.  At mile 15 I wanted to pick the last three miles up a bit (6:47, 6:31, 6 01).  Overall I felt good.   I feel  I so be able to average a 6:30 for the whole course.   Will see....

After I drove home from the marathon course (20 minutes later) I took the dog out for a run.  4.2 miles at a 7:17 pace.  Very good day of running even though it was hot.

Nice run! Your training is rocking.

Have you decided on Des News yet?

From wheakory on Mon, Jul 02, 2007 at 15:26:02

I decided not to run Des News for a couple of reasons. One, my family and I are going on vacation from July 9th to July 14th so this is a week off work, and work is really busy right now and I don't want to have to take a day off in the middle of the week for the Des News Marathon. We are going to be camping at pebble creek for a week which will be a great altitude place to run. Two, I really want to focus on running the Pocatello Marathon well, not to say I could win it, but at least finish at 2:50 or lower. I've ran the course twice in the last two weeks and plan to run it again this fourth of July. This time I'll run it as a marathon pace run of 14-16 miles. I really want to nail this course since its my home town so I'm trying to stay dedicated to this course. Two weeks after Pocatello though I plan on running the Top of Utah

marathon in Logan. I did this last year.

If I ran the Des News Marathon I don't know how fresh I would be for the Pocatello Marathon. You've ran the Pocatello Marathon so you know that the second half of it is where you need to be strong.

Good luck with Pocatello, you have been training on it well and will know every turn by heart, which should give you a great advantage. You have a real shot at winning it! It is a tough course, but your training will pay off. I am still leaning towards Des News, but am waiting to register until a couple of weeks to make sure I am ready. I need to get some more downhill running in to be prepared fully so I don't get injured.

Good luck with the training!

I really liked the Des. News marathon I came away afterwards not that sore, but I did tons of downhill training. If you really do that than it really benefits you. I really wanted to run it, but just with everything going on it would be difficult but not impossible. I medaled in my age division last year, and you should do the same this year.

As undecided as I'm who knows maybe I'll run it. I would just like to run it for the fun of it. What training pace are you focusing on in this marathon, or maybe you haven't decided yet?
