November 3, 2012 Just Cuz Half Marathon 1:19:04 second place overall.  (what a difference a year makes)

 


Long-Term Running Goals:

Worship the Lord and praying early in the mornibgs and keep doing that. Staying humble and desperate for the Lord and praying for end-time revival for America.

My Long Term goal is to just run whatever I can.

Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

I did a 5 mile tempo/marathon pace sort of run today.  I had to wear my Under Armour tights today because the temperature was 33 degrees. NO NO NO BACK TO COLD WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I just needed to get that out.  I'm not ready for cold weather because , 1.  It takes more time to get ready in the mornings.  2.  No matter what kind of gloves I have on my hands still freeze.  3.  The motivation factor is less.  4. How can you get a suntan.  That's why I bought a treadmill to run more inside this year.

Tempo run
6:38, 6:14 (warm-up miles)
5:51 (felt okay)
5:53  (felt okay again)
5:52  (I don't remember how I felt)
5:48  (Going uphill on this one and I pushed harder and the effort felt hard)
5:56  ( I think the effort felt hard on this one where it probably shouldn't have)
6:46, 6:26 (cold down)

Overall I'm not real pleased.  The effort should have felt easier, but it didn't feel that way.  Maybe I'm feeling the effects of the previous Marathon's.  Right now I don't know how I'm going to approach the next marathon.  I know with my runs left before October 5th, I'm going to cut the intensity down a little.

Why are you not pleased? You ran on rolling hills at 5700 feet elevation (right?) on pace for a 2:34 marathon for the tempo portion. St. George is downhill, and starts at 5200 feet, then drops to 2600 over the course of the race. My rule of thumb is that any pace I can sustain at 4500 feet on rolling hills for 5 miles with any effort in a training run and without a taper is sustainable for the whole marathon in St. George tapered and otherwise in a race situation.

Well, I it felt like the effort was harder than it should have been. After STG I really need to focus on Speed Work, because the base miles are there I just need to develop more speed.
