Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

12 Miles at 7:07 on a cold, 30 degree mid-morning run on Hwy. 171 between Malvern and Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Pace reflects a 90-second pit stop that included a bio break and layer shedding, so all in all, I was pretty happy with the workout.  My knees and legs are a little fatigued after 6 straight days of running (a lot for me), so a scheduled day off on Monday comes at a perfect time.

GPS lost satellite reception on the latter half of the run, but because I ran an out-and-back, I was able to stay on track and finish relatively strong.

I just read an article about Charles Portis, the guy who wrote True Grit. Apparently he lives in Little Rock but is a bit of a hermit. Ever see him around town?

Rob, I think you and anyone else interested in Charles Portis will get a kick out of the following article from the Arkansas Times:

http://www.arktimes.com/RockCandy/archives/2010/04/05/report-from-the-oxford-american-gala-charles-portis-really-doesnt-like-having-his-picture-made

I, like most other Arkansans, have never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Portis. You may have read the recent New York Times Magazine article where he imposed the condition that he not be quoted...of course, NYTM still ran with the piece.

Fascinating, humble man.
