Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

Me at the walk in clinic this morning: Yeah, I need to get covid tests for me and my sons.

Them: What symptoms do you have?

Me: None, other than my wife tested positive last Wednesday.

Them: Well, we're only testing people with symptoms.

Me: My wife told me you would try to send me somewhere else. I need a negative test to send these guys back to school.

Them: I'll check with the head nurse - she walks away - comes back with a piece of paper with other testing sites on the paper (exactly as my wife said she would, BTW). and says, the head nurse says we're only testing people with symptoms.

Me: I have to drive to North Port to get tested? All of the places on your list have a 3 day turn around on results. Since they are eligible to go back to school on Thursday WITH NO TEST RESULTS, what is the point of getting tested at all?

Them: You wouldn't have got our test results until tomorrow anyway.

Me: No Crap! We weren't eligible to get tested until 5 days after exposure, which is why we’re here today. I have certainly learned my lesson - I have 2 options: 1. Lie to you and tell you we have symptoms, so we can get tested, or 2. Ignore CDC recommendations and get tested IMMEDIATELY after learning of exposure.

Then I had to go home and explain to Spouse why we couldn't get tested.

I am watching my kids get lazier and dumber.

Wow. Just wow. Between you and me, I would have fibbed and said I had a sore throat and a cough.

I don't mean to hold you to a higher moral standard, but I'm hanging onto this message, where a priest told me to fib! It's just between you, me, and the internet.

Since I typed this - I have given this some more thought. If a person believes that there is such a thing as a false positive test result, what would be the point of getting tested?

Simple solution then. As soon as you learn of the exposure, get tested. If they ask if it has been 5 days, you say "yes, my wife has tested positive and I was exposed to her 5 days ago". No fibbing involved :) Moot point now, of course.

@Michael has got this down to a science! @Tom, are they really requiring a negative test? Never heard of that.

From Tom K on Tue, Aug 17, 2021 at 07:48:24 from 47.206.202.65

Mike, A negative test gets them back to school 3 days sooner. Just playing by the rules in the decision tree:

I see, that makes much more sense. I was thinking it was just to enter/begin the school year.

i wouldn’t be surprised if her going to “see the head nurse” was actually just her going to get some water or use the restroom.

There may be hope for your kids because they may not be getting dumber and lazier while they sit at home along with everyone else. I've been back in the classroom for 8 days. Since the third day of school, I've only had five students in my classroom. The kids are either home with COVID, in quarantine, and/or waiting for a negative test. My district switched to a mask mandate on the fourth day of school. It was just too little too late.
