Drove over to Payson with the intention of doing similar run as last 2 Thursdays up/down the canyon with the speedsters. But apparently I didn't get the memo that said nobody was coming today as I was the only one who showed. So did the run solo, 3.5 miles up and then back down.

Kinda spooky on the way up in the dark alone, too much rustling in the bushes. But luckily I survived without being eaten or attacked by any wild animals. Tried to run at a pace that would be similar to what I would likely do if I was with the group, but always feels a little harder going it alone. But the cooler temps were great.

Good job Tom. I've had some of those spooky dark runs too.

Sorry Tom I was going to come and run...I didnt get the memo either I just decided to give the knee a break. After last Thursday I took Friday off and then decided that I would put some K-Tape on and try and run the Santaquin 10k. Well I did and I took it kind of easy and ran a 39:05 10k and actually won the race. But no knee pain at all..I thought that I was in the clear for running but no such luck. It hurt Tues morning and then again on Wed and so I decided to take a break. I am debating on if I should hang up the 10 racing season and just get back to running 3-4 miles a day with some biking. So I will be there next Thursday but it will only be 3 up and back. 6 seems to be my limit for pain right now :( Good job on the run! You are playing it smart.

Thanks guys. Tyler sorry that knee is being so problematic for you. Looking at the big picture view of things, taking the rest of this year off from racing may not be such a bad idea. You just gotta go with your gut feel.

The weird thing about nobody showing up (actually I did pass Andrew on the way down, looks like he started around 6:15 and was by himself), I saw Pat yesterday and he asked me if I was coming today, so I assumed everyone was good to go. Guess things must have just worked out so nobody could come today.

Man I sure would like to be able to say "I took it kind of easy and ran a 39:05 10k and actually won the race". 39:05 is almost PR for me and I don't know if I'll ever be able to get there again. Darn 45 yr old legs. Congrats on the victory!

Tyler is just rubbing his natural born speed in our faces!!!! ;o)

So, do you find that when you are alone you run faster or do you run faster when you have speedy people to chase (or beat or keep up with, however it works out)???

Do you guys have any races coming up?

From Tom on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 16:20:31 from 67.199.180.90

I definitely run faster in a group of speedy people as compared to running alone, and for whatever reason it seems to feel a little easier than running the faster pace alone.

No races planned until SGM (I'll be pacing Kim). We're also doing the Dirty Dash 10K a week before the marathon but I don't think it qualifies as a race, mostly just playing in the mud! Should be fun!

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 16:25:01 from 71.219.102.155

Oh yeah, that is right!!! That looks like a fun race, just don't you two get hurt playing in the mud!

Have you run a marathon with her before? My husband and I really enjoyed running an entire marathon together, it was nice.

From Tom on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 16:40:51 from 67.199.180.90

Kim and I ran SGM last year together. We went out a bit too aggressive shooting for sub-3:50 and Kim's ITB acted up around 16-18 miles into it. SO this year we're taking a low key approach, considering bagging the watches altogether.

Running a marathon without a watch, strictly by feel, id GREAT! I say do it. I ran a negative split in St George by over 11 minutes and I think it is because Scott and I split up at the halfway point and he had the Garmin on. I just ran by feel and ran faster and actually felt better.

Tom, almost moutain lion breakfast, scary stuff, had had the same feeling running city creek in the dark. Wear one of those giant head lamps and move your head to and fro, the creature in the dark will think your big foot. Funny, when your spooked, sometimes hard to run the same route again. By the way, I have more crazy running advice if you need it.
