AM: Ran 6 with Kim around the river bottoms on a cool but pleasant morning. Did 5 strides along the way.

9:19/147

Late AM: Didn't feel like doing XT in the boring gym, it looked much more appealing to run in the sun so I did! A bit warm but still nice. Just tried to run what felt natural and ended up in the 8-8:30 range.

I'm at the point in the PF rupture injury rehabilitation where I think I can move to the next step in the feet strengthening process which is to do just a bit of barefoot running on grass. Ran just over a minute today and felt great. Assuming it doesn't make things worse I'll gradually work up to 2 miles barefoot on grass, once or twice a week until it gets too cold.

8:12/169

Not sure what is up with my high HR today. Guess the heat played a role on the 2nd run but the 147 ave HR this morning is odd. I'll have to keep my eye on that and make sure I'm not overtraining,  but outside of the high HR I feel just dandy.

Nice job today Tom! Did you run in the fivefingers shoes or just nothing at all?

Keep up the great work, you and Kim are doing awesome!

I ran "naked" today Clay, however I'm thinking if I want to continue doing stuff during winters months I'll need to get some fivefingers or something similar.

I wouldn't worry too much about the higher than expected HR. I tracked mine for quite a long period and sometimes it was just higher when exertion and external factors were the same.

Tom, with Kerry on the HR, if you have not done speed work for some time, seems normal to have the HR a little higher.

One question, what happens at STG if you or Kim feel great? Are you staying together regardless?

Thanks for the comments and encouragement guys.

Brent I plan on running SGM with Kim from start to finish no matter what. I'm not ready to race just yet and I'm enjoying the easier paces and having fresh legs most all the time. We'll save the racing for next year.

I did some barefoot today and the cement (unintentionally, running to football practice, forgot the shoes).

Take care of your feet!!!! Hey, did anyone (doctor, book, running friends, whoever) tell you to balance on one foot to strengthen your foot and alleviate PF? I really think it helps!

From Tom on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 22:40:24 from 67.199.180.90

Kelli I have been doing some of balancing on one foot stuff and I think it helps. Lately I've been doing this on this balance pad thingy that we have. It has little pointy "nubs" that usually are on the bottom side to provide traction so it doesn't slip. But I like turning it over so the nubs poke me in the foot I'm balancing on. A little painful at first but seems to enhance the strengthening affect. I have also heard some people talk about walking barefoot on gravel to help cure the PF so maybe this is the same kind of affect. Good luck the next while as we head into taper mode (both physically and mentally). Hope you can get some good sleep!!!

I have heard the same about the gravel! In fact, when my PF hit this summer I went and walked on a neighbor's gravel RV pad a few times a day. I have tough feet, so it did not really hurt. It was like a good massage!

Glad your feet (and mine) are holding up! I am looking forward to giving them a break, soon!

Tom, strong, run West Canyon when you donw to St.George, you feet will certainly get stronger. You likely know where it is at, one mile up past the bottom gate, make a right into the parking lot, 8 mile round trip.
