Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Rest/Cross Training week

Man alive am I still SO very sore from Saturday.  My back, abs, arms and of course my legs!!!   That race chewed me up and spit me out!

45 minutes on the spin bike.

LONG stretching and foam rolling session.

Scraped and massaged my lower legs.  Ice

Maybe tomorrow I'll try to add an arm and ab workout in addition to the bike.

I'm definitely feeling a lot better after Saturday's race.  Still a bit of fatigued in the legs.  Ankle swelling has gone down.  Almost back to normal.  Still aches a bit.  Lots of scraping, soft tissue work, ROM exercises and ice.  I'm hoping the short run was alright.

4 easy miles on the home TM. Quick 1 rep of calf raises, LLL and B6.

Stretch

Ankle swelling is pretty much gone. And it felt 75% normal on the run. I guess it just needed a rest week.

Fun filled day of making freezer meals with my neighbor. 12 meals in all for each of us and an apple pie for the ward rodeo tomorrow. I would like to make a few more batches of banana bread and chocolate protein muffins.

My son had been bugging me to run  our ward 5k for several weeks and I was thrilled to be able to pace him!  I told him to be careful of the boys that take off too fast.  Sure enough when the gun went off,  those big boys took off like lightening.  Carter started to follow suit and I told him to slow down a little.

He only stopped for 2 walking steps to take a drink of water at mile 1.5.  But he ran the whole way!!  He even passed those big boys.  Ha!

At mile 2, I could tell he was getting tired.  So I told him to focus on short goals....make it to the stop light...make it to the church...make it to the turn, etc.  Finally with 200 M to go, I told to sprint to the finish.

He had a big crowd cheering for him and since he was the first primary kid to come in, they even had a tape for him to run through.  But he rolled underneath it.  Guess I need to teach him race etiquette.

None of my own running accomplishments can compare to those of my children.  Good day!
