Personal: I live, work and run in Houston, Texas. I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others. I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one. I feel like there are more PRs out there. When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons. I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.
My wife and I are from the mountains of the west. We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons. The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.
As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask. |

| 59F, 99%, E 6 mph and clear. Getting ready for another front, but hasn't arrived yet, so just a warmer than normal winter run. 10.10 LLHR miles in 1:55:30, 11:26/mile, 120 bpm, 126 max. A lot of Saturday left in my legs, took a while to get moving very well at all. Short lifting session at the end, seeing if I can get 3 sessions a week in by shortening the session but maintaining the intensity.

| 30F, 60%, N 5 mph. With the wind it seemd like a 3-shirt morning, but turned out pretty sweaty with that much clothing. No long pants though. I didn't run yesterday because we supposedly had another ice storm coming in and I needed to get to work early to beat the traffic. The storm didn't get icy until noon and by the time I got home the roads were dry. Temps were about 2 degrees warmer than the last storm on Friday and that made a big difference.
Ran 10.00 miles in 1:20:06, 8:01/mile, 159 average heart rate, 167 max. I was surprised at how difficult this is, once I finish with these series of GMP runs I am going to make a table and track my progress or decline, as the case may be. Today's splits were 8:29, 8:00 (155), 7:56 (157), 7:57 (160), 7:57 (161), 7:59 (162), 7:58 (162), 8:01 (162), 7:57 (162 and 7:52 (165). 0.5 CD then finished with stretching and lifting at the gym.

| 27F, 82%, E 5 mph. I don't think it was this cold, I am going to have to get my own weather station because the sites on the computer are not accurate. They extrapolate too much. I wore three shirts again but again it was too warm. It will be much warmer the rest of the week. The computer-reported temperature was already 34F by the time I finished.
Ran 10.00 miles in 1:18:52, 7:53/mile, average 164 bpm, max 170. Splits were 8:10, 8:02 (159), 7:34 (162), 7:46 (163), 7:54 (164), 8:03 (164), 7:52 (165), 7:59 (166) 7:52 (166) and 7:41 (169). So I ran quite a bit hotter than yesterday, but I didn't feel like I was working any harder. Finished with 0.5 CD. I don't normally run consecutive workouts like this, but I am quite a ways out from my next race and kind of experimenting with what I can withstand and whetherr I can get my legs to recover faster. I may run hard again tomorrow if I can manage it.

| 58F, 96%, SSE 6 mph. Dramatically warmer. Legs are quite tired so I gave up on the fast stuff, did a LLHR run but only logged 11:31 per mile, 121 bpm, max 126. Finished off with stretching and weights.
I went out at 6:00 instead of 5:00. One guy putting his trash out said hi, you're running late this morning. Had never seen him in my life. I'm fooling myself if I don't think everybody in this neighborhood keeps a running log for me, don't know why I bother to do my own.

| 64F, 93%, S 7 mph. Joined Wade for a long run this morning, plan was to go down to the Y and back, 20 at an easy 9:00 pace, but the week had caught up with me, the lifting more than the running I think. If there had been a vehicle at the Y I would have called it a day. Found some shortcuts coming back and finished with 18.70 at 9:17/mile. Heart rate held pretty steady, 147 average and 160 max, just tired legs. Taking it easy for a few days until I feel recovered. Recovered pretty quickly over the weekend, thankfully.
