Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

It was so hot today!  I felt like I was going so slow... I kept looking at my watch expecting to see 10 min miles.  I was shocked I kept it in the 8's the whole run.  That's a testament to how fit I am, I guess.  I had to dig down deep to not quit on Mile 4... that mile was uphill, against the wind.  I forgot how difficult the heat makes things.

Still, after you run in the heat and sweat so much... you feel GREAT!  I am very happy I got to run today.  The difficulty of it just was exercise for my will power.

Ran 8 miles at 6:10 am around my neighborhood.  Average pace=8:36/m. Weather= 65 degrees, wind 15 mph, dark.

I had to give myself a pep talk this morning.  I had set my alarm for 4:30 am.  The plan was to run really early.  However, I had to get up twice in the night to tend to the baby so when the alarm went off, I started negotiating with myself.  It was so dark... maybe I could call my sister and see if she would babysit for me later today so I could run in the light... or, maybe I could run with the double stroller today.... or, maybe I could just run when my husband gets home from work this evening....

Thing is: all of these options mean that I have to spend a significant portion of my day planning, preparing, and working hard .  All other things I had planned for the day would probably not get done because so much of my time would go to trying to run.  Or else, I'd have to scrap plans to run... or run less miles than I wanted.

It took me about 30 minutes of laying in bed having this conversation with myself before I finally just said, "Shut up, Lindsey!  Get up!  And JUST DO IT.  Now is the best time.  It's 65 degrees outside for heaven's sake!!  Stop your whining!"

Worked out great.  I got ready and made breakfast for everyone before I left.  I started running at 6:15 am.  Ran 8 miles.  Sunrise was at 7:00ish.  Returned at 7:20 am...  only my husband was up and he was already eating breakfast.  I was able to take a shower while kids ate.  In the past, I ran first and then made breakfast when I got home... but I think this way is better.

AM

Ran 8 miles along the Trinity river trails with Brenda and Ashley today.  It was really fun.  We talked the whole time.  We went slow because the two of them are running a half next weekend and they wanted to take it easy.  I was content to take it easy because I'm doing a 5k tomorrow morning.  Average pace = 8:30/m.  This is the pace I run around my neighborhood most days.  Actually, today was easier though because there are no hills by the river and my neighborhood has several.  I don't even feel like I ran today.

Now my husband and I are going to meet up with my friend, Stephanie, and her boyfriend for lunch....  at the Rahr Beer Brewery!  Steph just flew in from New Jersey and I hadn't seen her since September.  And the best part is.... I've got a babysitter!!!!!!!!  I mean, of course I do... I wouldn't be going to a brewery with kids!  Ha, ha!  We are so excited because this is the first time since January 1st my husband and I got a babysitter.  And we're going out!  With other adults!!!   As exciting as this is, I've got to take it easy cuz of the 5k tomorrow.   I have to be back by 4 pm anyways, so how crazy could I get.

 ----------------

PM

The Brewery was fun!!  Not what I expected.  There was a band and food...  and you could sample different beers and there was a tour of the brewery to see how they made the different kinds.  So cool.   Then afterwards we went to eat mexican food... no, I mean seriously pig out on mexican food.  So fun.

So when I got home at 5:30pm, I started thinking about the race tomorrow.  Stephanie talked my husband into coming... and get this!! ... bringing my kids... something that he has done exactly once in my entire running career.  I am excited now.  I want to do good.  However, to do good, maybe I shouldn't have had 3 beers.  Ok... so maybe I could do a quick 2 mile run and see how fast I am.  Maybe it'll help burn some alcohol off.

Mile 1- 7:17

Mile 2- 7:28

So not as fast as last Friday when I averaged 7:09 for my 2 mile fast run.  Oh well, at least I had fun.  I don't know what the goal tomorrow should be.  I want to do at least 21:30.  I hope that is feasible.
