8 miles with Shelbey in the blasted heat after work!!! So, this was a killer run but a great run! The plan was to run 8 miles total with 3 X 1600. When we started our run it was 88 degrees, when we finished it was 91 degrees. I needed to run those 1600s hard but I didn't want to get discouraged due to the heat (or since we were running tired after a long week of work). Hence, I looked up a conversion chart for running in the heat and decided that if I could hit those 1600s around a 7:15/20ish I would be happy in such temps. It was to look like this: 1 easy, 1 super hard, 1 easy, 1 super hard, 1 easy, 1 super hard, 2 easy. When it got to our first hard I didn't even dare look at my watch until it beeped. It felt harder than I was expecting and so I just wanted to focus and deal with it. I was shocked when the mile rang in! Shocked and happy. Our fast mile splits were: 6:46, 6:48, 6:49 (yea, I know they got progressively slower but this is SO MUCH faster than I was expecting under these conditions). Super happy right now. Super tired right now!!! Ha! :-) The Boston Marathon usually proves to be a struggle for me. I have set myself up well for this one. But will I be able to race it right? The only time I was able to race it correctly was three years ago in the insane heat (so didn't get the time I was trained for but did better than expected under those conditions). Ugh ... I have no idea how to race that course. I really do need to reach out to someone and get some advise. I always crash mid Newton Hills! Boo me!!!! (But yay me for today's run!) :-) |
