Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

This morning Hilary and I met early to get our run done in time for pictures.  We did 8 miles, we went up to 11th Avenue, down City Creek and into Memory Grove, then back to campus via 4th Avenue.  Then we did strides while doing our photoshoot.  Posters to be released soon...

After arriving in camp in Eden (it took us about 5 hours to get here) we went for an evening run before dinner.  We went on the trail by the reservoir, I went out 2.5 and back.

This morning we did our hill workout up by the North Fork Campgrounds.  We warmed up about 2 miles and then did strides and drills.  The hill workout was the same as last year, a 100, then 100 200, then 100 200 300, and finally 100 200 300 400.  I took half jog half walk back down for recovery.  It took a few sets to find the right group, but I was mostly with Nikki and Giselle for the first few, then Hilary, Hannah, and Dana for the rest of it.  The workout went a lot better for me this year than last year!  My times were pretty consistent, about 21-22 for the 100s, around 46-47 for the 200s, 1:12 and 1:13 for the 300s, but I didn't get a time for the 400 because we actually didn't make it that far!  I was doing so well pushing up the hill after the 300 cone, but as we got around the corner just as it was starting to flatten out a bit, there was a MOOSE!!!!!!!!!!!  About 20 meters to the other side of our cone.  See our facebook page for pictures.  It was crazy!  I don't know what we would have done if we had realized it was there during the previous sets... probably not have finished I would think, luckily we only were supposed to do one 400 though.  For cooldown I ran down the road with Hilary until I was at 7 total for the morning.  At one point a dog ran into the road from one of the houses, and I think Hilary and I were more scared of it than we were by the moose...  We tend to not have the best luck with dogs while running.

In the afternoon we went to the trail by Pineview Reservoir again.  I did 2.5 out and back again for 5.

This morning we went up to Snow Basin to run.  I felt awful.  I made it to the end of the first part of the loop, where it turns into a wide dirt road, and then back to the part where the other part of the loop is, but I felt even worse.  I had cramps, and when I stopped I got chills.  I ran back to the cars to finish at 4, then took some Advil and a nap.

In the afternoon I ran along the trail by the reservoir again.  This time, 9 miles...  It was 3 miles to the beach where some of our girls were swimming, I made it another quarter before deciding to turn.  When I got back to the parking lot I went out again for a little bit and then back to finish at 9.

This morning we had a threshold workout.  We warmed up about 2 miles, then strides and drills.  I had 2.5 before changing shoes.  The workout was 5 sets of 4 minutes on with 50 seconds recovery.  I ran with Bekah, the goal was to be right around 6 minute pace.  I felt pretty good during them, I just tried to focus on relaxing and keeping my breathing easy.  Afterwards for cooldown Alyssa ran 5 miles with me :)  we ran from Eden Park over to the trail by the reservoir for one last time.  It was so nice to get all my miles in this morning, I can actually relax this afternoon!

This morning we had team practice.  I started with the team on the Albertson's loop.  Alyssa was with me for a bit, but when she turned I was by myself the rest of the way.  When I got to 1300s on the way back, I ran up to Wasatch Drive and then up above the zoo.  Then I got on the Shoreline Trail and ran that over to Red Butte, then met up with the team at the track and did 10 strides.  Kep put away the hurdles before I got to do the drills... but I just did them in the weight room afterwards.

This morning we went up to Pipeline for our long run.  Knowing that I needed 14 miles, I added on extra at the beginning with Hilary and Becky.  We ran up the road about 2 miles and then got on the trail, and ran down to the switchbacks where we got onto the regular trail.  That was 4.6 miles.  We then ran the usual out and back route, and back at the cars I grabbed a water bottle and ran back on the trail to get the last quarter mile I needed.  And to see if I could find Becky, since she dropped back on the last part...  After several minutes and still not seeing her, I walked back to the cars, to find that she had made a wrong turn at the bridge and ended up on the road.  Fortunately, she ran up the road and found us :)
