Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

This morning Abigail and I met Natalie at Sugarhouse at 5:45 to run before we left for youth conference.  We did 2 big laps around the park.

In the evening while everyone else was swimming, Natalie and I ran 2 miles around campus.  We did our crunches and pushups afterwards.

This morning Natalie and I met Bryson outside the dorms at 6 to get our run in before the busy day.  We ran about a mile warm up, taking a long route to the quad.  Then we stretched before doing 8 sets of 1 minute on and off fartlek.  We got in 2 miles of that, and then we took a long way back on campus and through the cemetary for a 2 mile cooldown.  Then I did the core work Emily taught us and some pushups.

This morning Natalie and I met up with Brandon outside of the dorms at 6 to go for a run.  We started with going through the cemetery, and then we did a run that Brandon had done yesterday with one of the leaders.  We went over to the main road and ran up until we were at the Shoreline Trail (it goes all the way to Logan we now know).  It was really windy heading up into the canyon, but once we got on the trail it was nice.  We ran out a mile and back on the trail.  Before we started back on the trail we enjoyed the view of the sunlight shining over part of the city.  Before heading back down the road we stopped for a quick drink.  Then Brandon challenged us to a race up the hill.  He won.  We finished back at the campus for 5 miles.

This morning we met at Cottonwood Complex for workout.  We started with a 3 mile warmup starting around the baseball diamonds and then up to 1300e to 3900s down to 1100e to 4500s and back to 1300e to complete the loop.  Then we stretched and did 5 strides before running Bessie 5 times.  She is 500 meters long, and the finish of our region course.  My times were 1:52, 1:51, 1:51, 1:48, 1:48.  On the last one Natalie finished at the same time as me.  Afterwards we ran the region course for cooldown.  Later I did Emily's drills and pushups.

This morning we met at Liberty Park for workout.  We started with a lap around the park and then to the start line on the inside for warmup.  While we waited for the rest of our group we did a few strides in the grass.  First we did an 800, I hit 2:48, with a recovery over to the mile mark.  Then we did a mile, we were supposed to hit doulbe our 800 time plus 12 seconds, so my target was 5:48.  I went at what pace I felt was good, and in the last half I was trying to close the gap Emily had on me.  I was able to pass Bryson and was just a few seconds behind Emily, my time was 5:52.  For cooldown we finished that lap and did another to get us up to 6 for the day.  Later I did drills and pushups.

This morning at Wheeler Farm I started with a mie and a half warmup with RJ.  Then I changed shoes and headed to the line and did a few strides.  I was the first girl from the start of the race, and I think there were 4 or 5 guys ahead of me and that was it.  One guy was making me swing wide on the corners not far into the race, but I was able to quickly pass him and never saw him again in the race.  The whole time I was behind RJ, and on the second lap when I glanced back as I was turning I could see Bill about the same distance away.  Afterwards we did a mile cooldown.  Later I did my core work and pushups.
