Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

What a great day to race! I've been looking forward to this weekend to come and cheer/pace my brother in law, (Summertime) run the Provo City Marathon. I received a message last night that he was still planning to race, but was not feeling too well. He told me to go ahead and stay home since he wasn't sure he could get his goal. I was worried, but still wanted to run/walk the last bit with him, whatever he was feeling. I drove to the 20 mile marker, but feared I had missed him. Drove to the 22 mile marker and met with him there. He was in 3rd place overall at that point. He kept a great pace. I was secretly nervous how hard I was breathing in comparison. We saw #2 up ahead and Sheridan passed him in the last 1.5 mile, I believe. We weren't sure his place at the time, but knew he was in the top 3 for sure. He pushed it in for a time of 2:59:34 and SECOND PLACE OVERALL!! We are all so excited for him, and his hard work to reach his goal! Congrats Sheridan!

Also congratulations to the top Women FRB'ers, Kassi, Melody, Emily, Rachelle, and Josse for great performances/PR's in the half! Oh, and Allie in the 5k!

Too caught up in the hype, my long run really suffered. I ran 9 miles at 7:18 ap. I picked up the last two miles back to my car. I really need to get 10 more miles tonight to make my weekly goal before taper.

Bonnie, do you think 10 more miles tonight to reach my weekly goal would benefit me anymore? Where's mom when you need her/him?!:)

From Bonnie on Sat, May 04, 2013 at 17:30:34 from 64.119.33.134

I am not really a fan of simply running miles to hit 'target' mileage. Personally, the only real downside to not running the miles is you go into next week too "fresh" ... Risking running too hard next week when should feel tired and less likely to overdo it ... Does that make sense? 5-10 miles at this point will not make, or break, your race (but running too hard next week 'could')...

From Bonnie on Sat, May 04, 2013 at 17:32:01 from 64.119.33.134

That would be "personally, I think ..." Or, "in my opinion ..." :-)

Okay, then one more question...

During taper we are to decrease volume but not intensity? So would that mean I am doing shorter stuff around the same pace I have been doing, and then just decrease overall mileage?

Burt, are you taking notes?

That is what Greg suggests:

This coming week:

Workout 1: 8-10 x 1min on 1min off (15-20 min warmup + 15 - 20 min cool-down)

Workout 2: 3 x 2000k (can do 1 mile + 1:30) with 2 1/2 min recovery at 10k to 10k + 10 secs pace

Long run: 12 miles with last 6 @ MP

Race week:

Workout 1:(Monday) 10-15 min warmup/cooldown 8-10 x :25secs with 1 min recovery

Workout #2: (Wednesday) 4-5 x 1000 with 200 recovery (or 4-5 x 4 mins hard with 1.5 min easy) @ 10k to 15k pace

All other days run 30 mins or so.

Whaaala :-)

I can't believe the grammar police did not write a citation on this one. Thanks for the freebie, Burt.

Bonnie- Thanks so much for taking the guess work out of my next two weeks, seriously! This mom really appreciates it.

Allie- At least I saw mum. I did ask where you were!

Melody- I also missed you. I thought you would be at your son's party, or crashing the 5k. Not running a completely crazy fast half today! You just about went sub 1:18!! How does that time get third place?! Oh yeah, Fass Kass and Kodi showed up. Great lineup today! Geeze. You are awesome!

Sheridan- Hope you're taking time to soak it in and relax. Have a fun vacation in S. Utah.

I like Bonnie's advice, too, but mostly I like her long legs.
