Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

I planned on running early this morning, but we had someone that wanted to come and look at our house.  So, I set my alarm for 6 and started cleaning.  Left the house and hit lunch at Wendy's and went to see Mr. Poppers Penguins.  It was cute.  We just saw Kung Fu Panda 2 last week and I liked it better.  I didn't get to run until 3.  I went to my old high school (Hillcrest) and ran around the track and ran stairs with three of my kids.  My 4 year old ran about 2 miles.  We had so much fun.  They played on the grass and bleachers while I ran and then the sprinklers turned on, which made it lots of fun.  Great day!

I have a 5K on Saturday in Southern Utah.  I haven't ran a 5K before...one that counts anyway.  I ran/walked one with my kids a month ago.  I am in such bad shape right now I am almost afraid to see what time I will get.  Oh well, I will have a good time running until I puke anyway! ha!

Just added a pick that my niece took of me and my two youngest kids at Bells Canyon Reservoir last Wednesday, when I should have still been in bed with my back because it is still killing me.  This is the trail that I run up a couple of times a week.  Sooooo beautiful!!

Awesome picture. I have never ran that trail, but it looks like I definitely need to get over there. Don't worry about your time at the 5k, just have fun with it.

Must be nice running with trails like that in your back yard! I wish my son would hurry up & grow up, so I can move to Utah! lol Good luck Saturday! go out easy, pick it up the second mile, push the third & puke the last tenth! lol I always think I am in good shape until I run a 5k, almost always go out too fast the first mile & spend the next two trying to figure out is wrong with me, and then sprint the last tenth! Pretty sure this is NOT the way running them is recommended! :-)

Thanks for the info JG. I was wondering how you run a 5K. I am sure I would do the same thing...start out too fast and wear myself out. Okay, I will start out slower and pick it up the second mile and of course push the end a bit too hard for my old bod! ha!

Move here...your son would love it! :)

btw-remind me again what is wrong with you back? I know it was the little spill you had a couple weeks ago....but can't remember what exactly is wrong.

5k's are my least favorite race! They are tough. I am sure you will do great!! Just run for fun and see what happens.

Good OLE Hillcrest...my kids love to go play on the grass, too (at Riverton or Herriman), but I just hate running around the track. Maybe if there were some sprinklers!

Super impressed with the 4 year old power runner!!!

Aw I have run a few loops around that track. My alma mater! No shade what soever. But not very windy either.

Oh, the belgian waffle and omelet inn! SOO heavenly! Where else can you eat a 3,000 calorie breakfast?!?

Love the pic steam! Good luck at the 5K, just run puke pace until you puke...hopefully this happens at the end.

Ha ha ... I'm going to post a picture of where I live one of these days. You guys will feel sorry for me and I'll have SlowJoe post one of Abilene then you'll really feel sorry him! Just kidding, we do have some pretty areas here in central Texas but I sure like your UT pictures. Oh...BTW are your still cleaning? I haven't seen a new post for a few days.
