I'm not sure if this belongs in a Running Goals section, but I'd like to do a triathlon. I'm not much of a swimmer, so this will be a quite a stretch for me. Personal: I am married with two boys ages 13 and 14. They are very supportive of my running, allowing me plenty of time for training and out of town races. We like to travel and camp. I'm the only runner in the family, the boys are still looking for the sport that interests them the most.
I grew up in Maryland but now live just outside of Richmond, Virginia. I ran a few 10k races in the early 1990s (when I was in my 20s). In 2006, a friend talked me into training for a half marathon. I finished that half then continued training to run my first marathon the same year I turned 40.
My favorite marathon was the Grand Island Trail marathon off the coast of Michigan's upper penninsula. It's a beautiful course that demands a lot from runners. We travelled to the race, then spent the next two weeks on vacation in Michigan - what's not to love? Favorite Blogs: |

Home - Causeway - Wilde Lake - Harding's Trace - Lauderdale - Broad
Really good easy run. Kept a solid pace, finished out with a set of 4 strides.
Felt a bit of tendonitis on my left foot, but otherwise, I felt really good. Nice slow warm up, then a steady 8:30ish pace. Weather was warm but not terrible - low 90s.

Lunchtime run from work - 93F and sunny.
Kind of a quick pace for an easy run. I felt some tendonitis in my left foot starting out. The building was cold this morning, so I was trying to warm up a bit at the start and I was pretty tight. I also got a late start, so I rushed a bit. The sun just sapped my energy or perhaps it was just too quick a pace.
Overall, it was a good day.

| Goal: 20 min tempo run @ 7:20 pace with w/u & c/d Actual: about 15 min @ 7:40 pace I planned to use my 7 mile loop from Sunday. It has a good mix of rolling hills and some flat sections. Much more shade today and starting before 8 AM allowed me to finish with temps still below 75F, although humid. I felt pretty good, perhaps a bit fast on the warm up (probably thinking about getting to work). The tempo was going well for about a mile, then I just lost energy and that was simultaneous with the hill on Wilde Lake approaching Church. I stopped for a short walk, then continued at a more modest pace. I felt like I had a good finish. 7.24 mi @ 8:14 AP Garmin |

Run from Rudinos with Todd. Cloudy, humid with some sprinkles - probably upper 80s.
I felt sluggish starting out and throughout the run. Todd felt the same, we slowed some, but still didn't feel very good and the humidity plus rain shower made us dripping wet at the end. 4.8 mi @ 8:40 AP

| Goal - Easy pace with 3-4 miles at MP - total 5-7 miles.
Ran from home in the evening when it had cooled off a bit. It was in the mid 80s at the start and lower 80s at the finish (when I was drenched in sweat).
Felt pretty good in warm up and started MP while going down Causeway - a bit of a cheat, but I knew I would have more uphill to deal with so I thought that was reasonable. The first 1 1/2 miles at MP felt fine, no issues. After that, I felt more winded and definitely noticed the extra work involved in keeping that pace over a longer period of time. I ran over to Wellesley from Hardings Trace and tried to get all the way to Lauderdale at pace, but just didn't finish. I stopped for a brief walkl break (lap 7) then held an easy pace back to the hood.
Post run, I have plantar fascitis in my left heel. It just feels tight, but that worries me a bit. Good thing I've got a day off tomorrow.
