Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

42F, rainy & windy.  G-A run.

Blogging a morning run at night again.  Some days are just too crazy.  And I think it's actually helpful for me to stay away from the computer in the mornings sometimes.  I may be more alert and coherent as a morning blogger, but it's a time vacuum, you know?

So, the run... The run was good. I'm trying a new "program" for Tuesdays in which I attempt to increase mileage this one day through a combination of getting up earlier and running each hill as aggressively as I can manage (after the 2 mile warm up).  I have to be a little careful not to push too hard, because I don't want to ruin the quality of Wednesday's run.  We'll see.  It seemed to work today. One in a row.

sounds like a great plan! NICE mileage, solid training! I hear you on the *time vacuum*...it can really suck up our time if we're not careful!

How many miles are you shooting for on Tuesdays?

Great job Sno. Keep up the solid work!

That shouldn't be a problem for a strong runner like you. The hardest part is getting started early enough. I did NOT want to get out of bed this morning. It was really tough taking that first step.

You were still on the rebound from last evening's run. It looks like I might be able to get an even earlier bedtime on Monday nights. We'll see if this works.

Putting the earlier start together with aggressive hill running can be a challenge sometimes. (Wake up!)

Good luck with the early bedtime. Remember, every hill you charge up, you get to coast down :)
