Marathon PR: 4:17 at Portland Marathon, Oct. 2007

5K PR 24:37 2009

10K PR 52:58 2010

Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :) 


Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year. 

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010. 

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

45F, cloudy, breezy, but dry.  Easy run. 

I only meant to run 3 miles; just kind of spaced out.  I guess that's good.  Got to get out into the yard and work a bit before the rain starts up again.

You must be feeling pretty good to have run longer than you meant to.

Since you're the expert on running in the rain, what do I need to bring/do if it's rainy on Saturday?

As I mentioned before, bring some lubricant for your skin. A billed cap is important for keeping the rain out of your eyes. Other than that, I find that *racing* in the rain is pretty much the same as in dry conditions. If it were a training run, I'd be thinking jackets and gloves. I'll probably have gloves anyway, but the temps should be so mild that the rain is really only a problem for the poor volunteers. I also recommend packing a large garbage bag to cover yourself before the start. And plan to have your "support crew" bring a change of clothes to the finish line if it's raining. As soon as your race is over, you are going to get super cold.

Keeping my fingers crossed that we get a dry day! But I don't want sunshine either! :)

Hope you got the yard work done, because looks like we are back to rain! That's great that you spaced out and ran too much; that is the sign of a really good run in my opinion :)
