Marathon PR: 4:17 at Portland Marathon, Oct. 2007

5K PR 24:37 2009

10K PR 52:58 2010

Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :) 


Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year. 

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010. 

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

40F Showers first half. Sun breaks near end. Windy at times.  Endurance run, club run, Leg Builder Hill at miles 14-16. 

I meant to run 22. What a loser.  ;)  J/K

At first I had no one to run with at the club, but one of the fast guys said he was feeling kind of tired and would run with me.  Then another guy, who is super fit (ultramarathons, ironman triathlons, etc.) said that he was saving his strength for an 8K later today so he "might as well" run with us too.   And I only had to ask them to slow down once, at the beginning, when we were approaching my marathon pace. 

So I had two kind, interesting fellows to accompany me on the SVT and we ran down to Mt. Si Rd and back (about 6 miles) keeping pretty close to 10:30 pace.  We made really fun conversation about trail running, ultras, stupid articles in RW, training methods, footwear, and Pose Method running. 

Thank goodness our weather settled down a bit today.  Even last night, the wind was still howling and the rain was coming down in sheets.  I couldn't have had such a great run without a little break in the weather.  I am ready to enjoy an afternoon on the couch, knitting and eating with a friend who is coming over.

That is so cool that both those guys ran with you. I'm having a hard time sticking with it on my long runs. I have 16 miles planned for tomorrow with just me and my MP3 player...

April - I like having a little time running with others in the middle of my long runs because it breaks it up and makes it more interesting. But I'm fine running them alone too. I guess I'm easily amused (by my own thoughts).

Our discussion yesterday revealed that the Chi Running guy learned his basic technique from the Pose guy. What a world.
