Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

~40F, cloudy w/ light wind.  Recovery run in VFFs.

My weather website seems to be down.  I hope they fix it soon, because the site records conditions just a couple of blocks from my house.  The other weather sites collect data for my zip code, which has two very distinct and different microclimates.

The VFFs were too cold and my toes froze.  I even wore some new merino wool Ininji socks with them, but I am so used to my nice warm shoes that it became extremely uncomfortable by the end of the run.

Enough whining. Here are two nice surprises I had this weekend.  The first is that I discovered a mistake in my favor: what I thought was an ounce of dark chocolate is actually only a half ounce!  I've been tracking my food intake lately and cutting back on certain foods. To be "allowed" twice as much dark chocolate is a very happy discovery indeed.

Secondly, I discovered an extra, unworn pair of Brooks ST3s in my closet!  Last fall, when I realized the ST3's might not continue being produced, I bought a few pairs at discount on the internet.  I'm such a space cadet, I have been staring right at the box every time I pick out shoes for my day's run, but it didn't register that there was anything in it.  OK. Confession. I have a thing for shoe boxes.  I try to limit myself and put some in the recycling, but they pile up anyway.  They have so many uses I can't help it!  This morning I was pushing this box out of the way, searching for my Ininji socks, when I realized, "hey - there's something inside this one!"

More chocolate, a new pair of ST3s (to be saved for marathons only!) -- it's a good day.

ETA:  Oops - forgot my weekly roundup.... total 45.74 miles for Mon-Sun.  Out of time to do my usual details...

Wow how exciting! I tried to find more ST3's the other day and couldn't...did they make like a part 2?

Those are two fabulously happy surprises!

I've got to make myself get out in the cold in the VFFs, since I talked my husband in to buying them. My hang up is that it takes so much time to put them on, and I'm always in a rush. Do these socks that you wore with them have little separate toe pockets?

Yes, the Ininji socks have 5 little toe pockets. So it takes even longer to get shod. I'm not going outside in my VFFs anymore until the temps are 50 or higher. Ironic, since I bought them to extend my BF runs into winter.
