Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Not sure if it's burn out or just feeling lonely for my kids...dragged my achy legs out the door for a painfully slow run.   Ran down 26th N hill and up 12th W hill, then east w/o looking at the watch.  Lots on my mind during this short run.  Perfect temp and beautiful morning!

We all have off days - and days we need to think. Hope your plans for the next races are going well.

From Cal on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:29:54 from 66.133.117.3

Not every run can be stellar. But I bet you're happy that you still did it huh.

Are you excited for the marathon?

From Leandra on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:30:33 from 71.35.249.42

Good Job Smooth! Temp was really really nice. A little chilly at first but then really nice once I got warmed up.

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:32:58 from 71.32.239.100

Maurine,

THANKS! You are so kind and you understand! Sometimes the physical pain from running mask the emotional pain of loneliness...

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:40:19 from 71.32.239.100

Cal,

So true! Yes, I'm glad I got out and run. I love running...just lack motivation for training sometimes.

I'm excited for PCM. I think if I didn't sign up for the Slam I would have been bored with the year-round training.

Leandra,

Hey cutie! How's your running been? I think perfect running temp is between 55-65. Most marathon records were set at that temp.

From Kathie on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:40:57 from 207.155.176.10

I am sorry that you miss your kids. They never really know how much we miss them until they have kids on there own...I guess I should call my mom!

At least you got out the door!

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:51:03 from 71.32.239.100

Kathie,

My missionary son hasn't written for 3 weeks. I am a little worried. I called my out of state kids every Sunday. I was able to talk to two of them; but was too late to call my daughter. I think I will call her today.

With my last child starting school this Thur, his senior year, I am feeling the empty-nest pang already! I am such a cry baby! STINK!

From Bec on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 13:23:09 from 67.177.35.60

You are such a great mom. You have such a sweet spirit that you share with those around you. Take it easy, and do something fun. Go buy a new orange cream sickle outfit for your upcoming races, not that I don't like your old one. New running clothes/shoes always brighten my day (I'm pathetic).

I'm excited to run PC with you and RAD. My plan is to run the first 13 with you two, and then go from there. I think I will cut four miles out of the course for my long run. Deer Valley would be the ideal part to cut out... :)

From Rhett on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 13:52:21 from 74.32.218.69

I'm glad you were able to get out for a nice easy run on a beautiful morning. That always helps me mentally more than most anything else I do. Have a fabulous day.

From RAD on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 14:06:08 from 76.27.12.70

I'm feeling the drag too! I guess its a good thing that it's taper week :) My dad would always tell me he missed me, but my mom never seems to miss me much. Trust me, it means a lot to us kids to know that our parents still miss us and care about us!! Keep up the good work.

From JohnnyV on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 14:16:17 from 204.124.13.151

Great job running when you weren't in the mood. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has days like that.

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 15:38:29 from 67.42.27.114

Smooth, it is a relief to see that you are human. Hang in there.

From Teena on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 18:14:04 from 67.177.20.13

Oh Smooth ...

Your heart is just too dang big. Is it awful that I am so excited for my kids to go back to school???

You should see my ugly toe!!! That would cheer you up really quickly!!! It's nasty ...

I love you! Let me know what I can do for you. I think Kelli and I are going to take the kiddies swimming tomorrow. You want to come?

Or we can do lunch and take the kids swimming later!!!

I am so happy for my kids to get back to school next week, too. But, they are also excited, they are so bored after three months at home with mean ole mom!!! I know one day I will miss them, so i try to enjoy them while they are here.

If you want some noise I can send my kids to your house????

Love ya! Hang in there.

Smoothie ~ I can only imagine what it's like to have so much love to give your children only to know that they're too far away. Don't take this the wrong way but it's comforting to know even you have "off days."

From Smooth on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 12:47:25 from 71.32.239.100

THANKS everyone for your kind words of understanding! It's comforting to know I have such great friends with listening ears! :)

Bec,

Thanks for saying that! I reaaaallly need new shoes.

Did you read the PCM info where they say something about persecuting bandits and their carcasses hung at the Plaza? That was so funny. I agree the place to cut is the Deer Valley loop. I doubt very much that I will be running with you and RAD. You girls are too fast for me.

Rhett,

Yep, being able to run outside is great therapy.

Rachel,

Partly because of my cultural background, I hardly tell my kids I love them or I miss them. I need to change my ways...can't assume that they know.

Johnny & Paul,

Yes, not only am I human...but a big cry baby! So glad I have running bloggers to vent.

Kristi,

You are so so so so nice! GOOD LUCK at Jordanelle this Sat.

Teena and Kelli,

Yes! When and where?
