Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Everything I've read about over-use injury comes from over training which in reality is under recovery.  So, I need to play this game smart.  I chose Wed to be my *rest* day because according to Karen, the Wed. water aerobic instructor is the BEST.

Karen and I got to the LC 25 min before class so we could do some shallow water jogging.  I like doing this because it loosens up my achy running muscles.  :)

Today I was able to do the abs intervals with my toes above water! YAY!  And I did not go under water when we did the dolphin.  I'm getting the hang of this.  My body is loving this water workout!  :)

I must admit a good water workout once a week is SO good for recovery. Plus, with it taking all the stress off our feet it feels really good! I'm glad you are learning to love it :)

Will the BAA let you run the Boston Marathon in a pool somewhere in Boston in 32 days? Keep bringing it back smart!

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 14, 2012 at 21:39:32 from 75.162.88.4

Rachel ~ yes SO GOODER for recovery. After aerobic class, we always spend 5-10 min at the jacuzzi, loving the water massage too! Aaaaah! :)

Slick ~ yep, that's the plan. Boston will be a "long run with benefits" for me this year! I'm looking forward to it. :)

Hi friend, I am so out of the loop, did you say your injury was from a trail run? Sounds like you are cross training and being a good girl. I hope we meet up a race together soon! Bryce, PC, American Fork, SG.....I am sur I will see you this summer! I sure miss you! Stay healthy!!

"Under recovering" wow that's an apt term for every running injury I've ever had. Awesome that you are still working out on your rest day.

Amazing workout for a healthy recovery! I can just picture you in the pool with your toes sticking up out of the water- how cute :-)

I'm glad you are being smart about your recovery. You'll be better off in the end. The Masters coach at AF pointed out a swimmer to me that she said couldn't swim 6 months ago and was completely terrified of the water. Now she is doing laps. If you ever want to learn you should check out them out. The coach is Diane Peterson

Great job. I think you are being very smart with your training.

Aaaaaahhhhh ... the magic of water!!

How did your run go today? :-)

From Tom Slick on Sat, Mar 17, 2012 at 10:44:57 from 69.171.160.65

Well Ms. Smooth, just keep it all together and it will work out in the end! I see you have a 10k, 25k and a half mary coming up this month. Matter of fact the 10k is today the 17th? Are you still doing these runs? You're an animal!!!!!
