Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Hope everyone had a WONDERFUL Christmas!!!!

Skiing with the fam. till 3pm.  Finally made it to In and Out Burger in AF.  This was a year in the waiting for the boys.  Don't know what the fuss about; the burger's pretty ordinary.

16 mi. in 2:22:50.  Drank 24 oz water during the run; 20 oz Amino Vital Endurance (the lemon flavor tastes pretty good.  I like it better than gatorade.  It was a free sample so I thought I'd try it and see if it lives up to its claim.)

Felt pretty tired after mile 12 and had to push hard to finish.  SO glad tomorrow's rest day!

MARRY CHRISTMAS ha ha, I totally just spelled that wrong!!! I am SO tired! let me re-phrase that, , , MERRY CHRISTMAS SMOOTH!!!! I can't believe you just ran a long run after skiing all day!!! Great job, and I have to disagree about the In N Out being just ordinary - just add a little 'extra' and now you have extraordinary! That's an In N Out Burger!

(told ya I was tired :) ) Hope you enjoy your rest day tomorrow !

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 13:28:42 from 174.23.217.47

Kathie ~ I didn't run the last two days and got right back on the schedule where I left off! How was your Christmas?!

Amber ~ Can't wait to read about your week...you had been too busy to blog, I know!

Last year on Christmas Eve we were driving home from California after a family funeral and the boys kept wanting to stop at an In N Out. Had never been to one and heard so much about it. Hubby wanted nothing to do with it since it was Christmas Eve he wanted a proper meal! We kept missing all the buffets in Nevada. We finally made it to St. George at 6pm. By then we had been on the road 11 hours and were starving, hadn't had lunch. We waited for an hour at the Texas Road House and had dinner before they closed. Just as we were driving down the road heading back to the freeway we saw an In N Out, the boys let out a HUGE "Oh No, we could have gone there!" Silly us! It was a night to remember as we braved the snow storm all the way home and made it back around midnight Christmas morning!

SO...it was greatly anticipated when the In N Out came to A.F. and Draper this year. But the lines were always LONG! until yesterday at 4pm! We made it...a year in waiting...Silly story!

Teena ~ Don't be amazed! Remember my TM is SLOW! I think 8:34 on that thing is more like 9:34 on the road!

Next week is gonna be busy with the family. We are skiing on M T W, ice skating on Th and check in the hotel for NY Eve party. I will be able to do lunch after the New Year when everyone's gone.

I MISS YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! Hope your leg is 100% now, please please please tell me you have NO MORE leg pain! I LOVE YOU!

april ~ Have you used Hal Higdon's or Pete Pfitzinger's or RW's running plans? I used Higdon's programs the first two years of my marathoning. I've been using Pfitz's the last two years. You are a great runner and very smart. You are doing awesome! I bet you're running faster than me!!!

vinh ~ THANKS! Hope you had a great Christmas as well!

Bec ~ You would have loved it. We could use another snow storm, may be couple more feet in the mountains would be perfect! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family!

Thanks for the confidence. I looked up the authors at my library and amazingly they are there. So I'm going to go pick them up and see which one will fit me for me right now. I also found a place where I can request the library buy other running books. So maybe with in the coming year they will! Thanks!

From Teena on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 19:44:31 from 174.52.45.85

Hey SSF!!!

What a fun week you have planned!! :) :) :)

Okay ... then next week FOR SURE!!!! After that I am back at school and things will get very hectic. :) (Can't tell you how much I have enjoyed not having to study.)

As for my lower leg. I am not going to answer your question BECAUSE every time I say that things are going in the right direction then it starts hurting again!!! So ... I am not going to say anything!!! :) Needless to say, I took your advice and ran EXACTLY 25 miles this past week. An 11-miler and a 14-miler. All slow. And that is all I am going to say. :) :) :)

Have fun skiing my SSF!!! I miss you LOTS!!!!

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 21:48:00 from 174.23.217.47

april ~ I'm glad you're able to find their books. Can't wait to hear how you like them. I bought Advanced Marathoning both the first and second edition. I also bought Born to Run.

SSF ~ I'm very happy to hear that you were able to run 25 this past week. Hey, have you noticed there's a new blogger name Teena Marie. I keep clicking on it thinking it's your twin; but she hasn't posted anything yet.

I can't wait to see you next week. It's been fun having all the kids home partying everyday...it's exhausting! On the other hand, they know very well your feeling of NOT having to study. Did I tell you David got accepted to a D.O. school in AZ? He's still waiting to hear back from a couple others. Anyway, wish you could come skiing with us during this break. It's warmer up at Solitude and the air is so fresh!

I MISS YOU!!!!

From Teena on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 22:47:54 from 174.52.45.85

SSF -- I am laughing so hard right now. Teena Marie is also me!!! :) I wanted to add crosstraining miles to my blog and Sasha said just to set up a new one. I was going to start using it when I set it up but then decided to finish out the year with my original one and start the Teena Marie one in January!!! :):) :)

Me come skiing with you???? ARE YOU CRAZY???? You know how you feel when you are swimming? I am 100 times worse than that on the slopes. I have only been once. It was on a date. The guy just took me on an original run (no bunny hill for me) and told me there is only one way down!!! CRAZY!!!! He took off and some other guy helped me finally get down. Have never been back ... and don't ever plan on going back!!!! :)

Love you!

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 22:54:03 from 174.23.217.47

SSF!!! That's exactly who I thought it was! A NEW blog for a NEW you in the NEW year! Can't wait to see it in Jan.! :)

You can totally come ski with me! I do it nice and slow and safe. We wear helmet and just glide. BIG difference with my swimming...I thrash around in the water, and scare to death of dying by drowning. We need to take you skiing. I'm serious! We can go to Alta after 3, it's free!

From Teena on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 23:03:24 from 174.52.45.85

Yep!!! A new me!!! One who runs smarter!!! :) :) :)

No way I am every going skiing. I would break into pieces!!! C'mon, you know that is true!!! :)

I just told Ry that you wanted me to come skiing ... he laughed HARD!!!

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 23:11:09 from 174.23.217.47

C'mon SSF! You won't break into pieces! You are very co-ordinated and a great athlete! All you need is some edgy-wedgy and very comfy soft ski clothes. :)

Does Ry know how to ski? He shouldn't be laughing!

From Teena on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 23:19:37 from 174.52.45.85

Ry hasn't been skiing in over 20 years ... but my guess is yes, he still knows how. :)

Btw, a huge congrats to David!!! That is SO SO SO cool!!! :)

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 27, 2009 at 23:24:32 from 174.23.217.47

We'll have to make it a double date skiing trip! You can literally ski b/w Ry's knees! :) :) :)

I'll pass the congrats to David. He needs a girlfriend before he graduates in April and heads off to med school.

Any chance you know TWO nice girls for my boys?

From leslie peterson on Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 00:37:41 from 174.52.158.81

I am speechless, skiing and 16 miles! I want to be you!!! I am going to try and eek out 6 miles tomorrow, and that is a stretch!!! I think I am going to croak in St. George!

From april27 on Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 07:46:01 from 99.188.251.180

I have Born to Run too! I love it. I read it before my last 1/2...I loved remembering all the stories during my run. I think it is part of the reason I pr'd!

From Rhett on Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 11:54:27 from 74.41.249.102

So did the Amino Vital Endurance stuff live up to its claims? Did you feel any differnt than usual?

Very nice 16 miler. You're amazing!!!!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 16:36:20 from 63.255.172.2

Thanks for the phone call today! I just love you, SSF.

Btw, did you get my text? I'm not sure why you have not been getting them.

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 28, 2009 at 21:30:44 from 174.23.217.47

Leslie ~ You are too funny! No worries about SG1/2! You will do great! I'm trying to loose some of these Christmas flubbers flab!

april ~ Good deal! I'll remember that!

Rhett ~ Not sure if it really helps with muscle recovery. I can't tell any difference. I'm going to try another one in my next long run.

Maurine ~ THANKS! My family think otherwise. They rolled their eyes and said I am NUTS!

Teena ~ I found out my inbox was full. I deleted all the old messages. THANKS! I sure hope you feel better by the minutes!
