Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

2 Halfs to redeem a VOF Marathon DNS

Woke up feeling much better, some nasal congestion, achy muscles & joints.  Texted Carolyn last night about running this morning.  She would run w/ me if the weather holds out.  After she left while I ran by myself, I got the idea to run 26.2 today to redeem my DNS.  Considering I didn't taper (ran 10 miles at AP of 9:24 yesterday on the JRP), was sick, had some important things to tend to, I did the best I could to redeem myself!  Another legit reason to DNS was I didn't want to give the flu/cold germs to Marcie who was supposed to be my travel companion to the race.  Anyway, here's the unofficial non-race-report! :)

Half #1:  8:06 am.  Ran 7 miles with Carolyn under dark cloudy sky in 1:05:51 (AP: 9:24).  Took a potty break, had a banana and water.  Then ran another 6.1 windy miles in 52:48 (AP: 8:49).  13.1 miles in 1:59:40.  Lots of hacking and spitting! Think running cures congestion!?!  Kept thinking about those racing today, Maynard, Allie, AmberG and others.  Hope they're having a wonderful time!  :)

Had to hurry so I could make it to Lori's funeral.  What a very special spiritual funeral service to honor a wonderful wonderful mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend.  SO GLAD I went...lots of tears sprinkled w/ a few laughters!  I'm gonna miss Lori and her influence terribly!

PM:  Had 5 min to get home for a quick freshen up before heading to the Cedar Hollow Stake Center for a special luncheon.  It was wonderful to meet Elder Neil A Anderson (the Apostle), Elder Garret Gong (a friend and member of the 1st Quorum of Seventy), Elder Munday (Area Seventy), Pres. Pitts (Provo Mission President), Pres. Brown (Mt Timpanogos Temple Pres.) and their wives.  As we ate this great meal together, Elder Anderson had us each take turn to talk about our families.  The brethren and the wives spoke of great personal stories of when/how they were called to serve.  If I were at VOF, my hubby would be the only Stake Pres. there without a wife.  I am so glad I went.  I think that was the reason I got sick this week so I would not miss this special occasion.

Spent 3 hours cleaning the downstairs family room, bed room, playroom and kitchen in preparation for Thanksgiving guests and company.  Fixed and ate a dinner of salmon, rice and broccoli.  BYU beat NM 40-7.  YAY!!!  We will be going to the BYU - UTAH game next week!

Half #2:  8:30 pm. Finally had time to run but it's a blizzard outside.  Ran 13.1 TM miles in 2:04:49 (AP: 9:34).  The last 3 miles were just like at the end of a marathon.  My legs were as if on fire, very painful, super tired, wanted to stop SO BAD!  I did walk a few times!  It was torture but I FINISHED!!!!

So for what it's worth the unofficial time of the unofficial redeemed marathon is 4:04:29.  My legs are officially trashed!  Now off to bed.  I have to be at church at 8:15 am for choir warm up before Sacrament Mtg. where the choir will be performing Simple Gift/For the Beauty of the Earth!  At least my arms still work, I think!

I LOVE it! You always find the right way to balance it all. Wonderful marathon, great time and even more important you were able to attend MANY exceptional services that you would've otherwise missed. You truly are amazing. Congrats on another strong marathon finish :)

Sure missed you Smooth. Glad you were feeling well enough to get a marathon in anyways--even amongst all that other stuff.

You are OUT OF CONTROL. What in the world? I thought you were sick!! Wait- you are... in the head. Funny thing is I am not surprised with your activities. Seesh. Even 13.1 on the TM? I think you redeemed yourself. Holy amazing.

What an incredible day you had besides the running. You met some powerful people that I am sure you learned a great deal from. It was probably best that you were at that funeral as well.

Can't believe you could run a half on a treadmill, I could never do that. Good post, happy for all the functions you were able to attend.

I want to know why I wasn't invited? I was sitting at the BYU stadium, kind of bored with all the time outs and being way ahead. All I could think is "I could go for another 13 miles right now". Then I thought about how it would be dark and my kids were waiting up for us. Not really they were just playing happily wishing we didn't return....and NO INVITE!!! SERIOUSLY WE Could have weathered the storm together!! BUT I was JUST thinking and NOT doing, unlike SMOOTH who first conceives then achieves!!! Just one step ahead as usual YOU ARE!! : D CONGRATS ON A SUPER MARATHON DAY!!

I have been staring at your post for about 10 minutes trying to pick my jaw up off of the floor!!!

It's a good thing you didn't tell me you were going to do this. I would have absolutely tried my hardest to talk you out of it (not that you would have listened, but I certainly would have tried).

When I talked to you last you could barely breathe!!!!

I seriously am speechless!!!!!

I love you so much. I am very happy that you were able to do all of the things you wanted to. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me you are feeling okay today. I worry about you.

Nice job on yet another marathon. You are CRAZY!!!!! I seriously have NO IDEA how you pulled this off.

Please rest now for a bit. PLEASE.

Love and miss you so much.

Smooth I don't know if I should say how amazing you are or how crazy you are. I guess to do something truly amazing, maybe you have to be a little bit crazy. :)

Just thinking about you running around like crazy trying to get prepped for tomorrow. I want to call ... but I don't want to take time out of your day. I know how stressed you are!!! :) :) :)

I love you!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! :) :) :)

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Nov 24, 2010 at 12:44:09 from 166.70.192.189

疯狂 :)

I hope you are feeling fine now.

From Smooth on Sat, Nov 27, 2010 at 00:12:42 from 67.2.111.170

Thanks everyone for the kudos! I don't deserve that.

Yes Fly I am definitely 疯狂 :)

SSF ~ Remember when you called?...I was telling you that may be I was feeling the worst and I would be all better by Sat.? And you were telling me that it's less than 48 hrs...how could I be better that fast? Well, I was not totally better, just well enough to run the miles. I would be very miserable at the marathon especially when I found out how windy it turned out to be. Things always work out...when there's a will...there's a way! :)
