Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Packed and drove down to SG.  Got to the Expo around 3pm.  While hubby did his dialysis in the car I went in to pick up my bib.  Didn't see anyone I know.  Called Lowell and we met up at Olive Garden with Teena for dinner.  After dinner, we drove to tour Lowell's new house.  Got to the Larsen's around 7:30pm.  Got the race gear ready and in bed by 10pm.  Set the alarm at 3:15am.

Hi Smooth. How's life treating you and Larry? Did you have a nice SGM? Miss you on the blog.

OK, 3:15 a.m., that gets you to Saturday -- breathlessly waiting for the report . . . .

Happy Thanksgiving Smooth. I hope it is a wonderful day with family and amazing food.

I thought about you and Larry this morning as I ran through Lehi on the Murdock Canal Trail.

Dear Ms. Smooth, Where are you? How was SGM? I'm sorry I've been too wrapped up in my own harried rush of day to day preceived problems but, I miss your blog entries. I sure would like to see your 60th marathon race report! What's going on with Bro-Larry? What's going on with you! What are your plans, are you going to run any more marathons or any other organized runs in the future? I see you still have Boston on the board to be run in your 60s. What are your plans for 2016? I'll share if you will! Love ya all, Lloyd.

How is your husband doing? I heard he had a transplant.

Hi Rhett! Thank you for checking on my blog numerous times! Life has been crazy but good, roller coaster with Larry's health. So grateful for true and faithful friends like you and Doone!

Hi Flat! Finally 3.5 months later I finished posting the report! Sorry for MIA here for so long!

Hi Burt! Yes you heard right! Larry got a kidney transplant.

Hi Slick! I need to apologize for not getting on here and touch base with you. I miss you. My 60th marathon was very nice, finally posted the report tonight (Jan 24). My bad!!! Bro-Larry got a new kidney donated by his brother Gary on Dec 30. We have been in the hospital for 3 weeks. Brighter days are definitely ahead. And yes, I have signed up for Boston and even got a hotel. But my running has been pathetic. I guess my focus is on Larry's recovery from transplant surgery. Who knew it was so much work and we just take one day at a time. I'd like to run 2-4 marathons a year in my 60s. But presently I'm battling with plantar faciitis so haven't signed up for anything other than Boston in 2016.

How about you? What are your plans and goals for 2016?

From Tom Slick on Mon, Jan 25, 2016 at 07:58:13 from 168.179.158.193

Yowzza! It certainly was good to catch up on you and Larry! Hope all is going well with Larry's recovery and you are getting some rest and recovery time yourself. Seems to me Larry is rather fortunate to have a super brother like Gary who donated a kidney and life to him. God bless them both!!! And bless you for taking such great care of all of them!

My plans for the 2016 running year is to get qualified to run the 2017 Boston Marathon. I'm getting myself (losing all the weight I gained since Athens) ready to run the Green Bay Wisconsin Marathon in May '16. That's the one I'll use to BQ, I hope. Other than that I'm just going to play it by ear this year picking and choosing what I want to do. I think I will look around for an international marathon some place not infested with terrorists. I had a ball at the Athens Greece Marathon but that part of the world is surly full of unrest.
