Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

We (hubby, Wendy, Karen and I) ran east to the trail next to SR92 by Smith's.  The trail worker-monitor wasn't going to let us on the trail; but since the work hasn't started yet, she said:  "OK, I didn't see you guys!"  Half way up the other side of the hill at mile 2 I told hubby to turn around so he wouldn't get booted off the trail at the other end since he only wanted to do 4 anyway.  He ran back and into Burger King for a breakfast burrito and read the morning papers! Karen jokingly said that she'd follow him instead!  SOME people know how to have fun on the run! Ha! :)

We got on the Highland neighborhood trail and I opened up my strides which felt good.  Went to MRJHS park to drink and saw DavidB who was at his mile 4.5 (we were at 4.15).  Since we were all doing our 8 miler before SGM so he hung with us on our way back.  It was fun to catch up on his cute family. :)

Had to run a little detour on the trail down to Dry Creek to avoid getting in trouble with the trail monitor by SR92.  Climbing up from Dry Creek was a killer!  Such a fun morning, everyone's all excited about SGM.  :)

11:37 (hubby insisted that we go slow for the warm-up mile), 11:03 (walked past trail monitor), 10:43 (uphill first half of this mile),  9:40 (road crossing, school traffic), 8:59 (flat trail), 8:56 (flat trail), 9:22 (talking with David), 9:38 (not bad for the Dry Creek killer hill), 9:08.

Trying to decide which shoes to wear for SGM.  The shoe-tongue of the Inspire 7 really bugs my tibial tendon especially on the downhill.  It has over 300 miles.  The Elixir 6 is so much more comfortable but less support (still weary of metatarsal sf).  What to do?

I say go for comfort, nothing worse than being uncomfortable for 26.2 miles!! That section of the trail is so hard to run on! I wonder when they will finally get it done? Nice run today :)

Thanks Carina! I think I may take a chance and wear the Elixir. :)

I wish they would hurry up and finish the trail already! The Lehi side is near completion but the Highland side has been slow! I don't see it completed before winter hits! :(

Sounds like a fun trail to run. I'll have to check it out. I'm excited for you to run SGM. I agree with Carina- Go with comfort.

Sounds like such a fun morning! I want to come run with you guys. :) Look at your Hubby go..he is doing so great and it is so exciting to see his progress! I just love it!

Carina & Scott have both given you great advice on the shoes. Go with what feels right.

Hey Smooth, how many miles are you gonna run tomorrow? This year has been so crazy, I need to make sure I have Kelly do a good amount, not to much kinda thing.

Nice run!!! :)

Tough call on the shoes. I'm pretty sure your podiatrist son would highly advise you against the Elixir. But I could be wrong. What is wrong with the Inspire tongue? Also ... what about getting a new pair of Inspire 7s and wearing them for a few runs before SGM?

Luvs and lugs! :)

Scott ~ it is the Murdock canal trail. It covers the entire canal from Lehi about 1500 W Timp Hwy to Orem close to the mouth of Provo Canyon. None of that crazy fun summit stuff that you love though! :)

Rachelle ~ you are welcome to come run super slow with us anytime! :)

Jon ~ Hi there! It has been a crazy tough year for you! The most I will run tomorrow is 4-5. We did our "last long run" today because Karen and Wendy have games etc. Tomorrow. How many does Kelly want to run tomorrow? I can run some of it with her! :)

Teena ~ you are right about Eric's advice. He told me to go back to the Inspire after my 1st sf. I ran in the Elixir 5 last year and loved it. It's lighter, so much more comfortable. I bought three pairs of Elixir 6 this year. O well! The tongues of the Inspire 7 is high and stiff and rubs against my tibial tendon causing irritation and pain especially on the downhill. I tolerated it for the last three marathons I ran since coming back from sf. It has caused bumps forming in the Tibial tendon. I did think about buying a new pair of Inspire 6 which might be better as far as the tonge is concerned, just don't know! Also, my left arch always ache after wearing the Inspire. So, other than less support, the Elixir feels so much better!
