Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Slept in.  Made a nice breakfast for our house guests.  After they left, hubby and I went to the Legacy Center.  Aqua running on the lazy river for 10 min.  Then swam 6 laps alternating between front crawl (free style) and on back (flutter kick with occasional back stroke).  On the 5th lap I made it across without standing up.  Yep, the pool was only 3-4 ft deep!  :)  One of these days/months/years, I may graduate to the "grown-up" pool!  For now, I'm practicing how to breath in air, not water!!!  Hehehe!  :)

I have not done any speedwork for the last two years, I think!  I know my days of PR is over.  Just going to enjoy running for the sake of running.  I am very grateful that I was able to finish 3 full marathons and one half marathon in the span of last 4 weeks...strange way of training in most people's mind.  In two weeks I will run my 8th SGM, 40th marathon.  It's been a wonderful 7 years of running and meeting GREAT friends along the journey!  Thank you!!!! :) :) :)

you've had a wonderful and amazing recovery week! Especially the hike and your company on all your runs...and at home :)

Glad there is no soreness! Are you feeling redy for SGM? I'm just ready for it to be over!

From Smooth on Sat, Sep 22, 2012 at 16:27:28 from 65.130.14.36

Rachel ~ I'm not stressed over SGM. I know I won't be running anything worthwhile to "write home about". With that said, I am happy to be healthy and each run is such a gift. I'm trying to figure out which marathon to do after SGM! Hehehe! :)

It sounds like you are really dong great with the swimming. You'll be doing Tri's before you know it.

I'm grateful to have met YOU!!! I was telling my hubby about all your 40 marathons. You were the topic of the dinner conversation!! Thank you for being so great and so inspirational! I hope to get a fall run in with you soon!

You're amazing, Smoothie!!! I remember when you had only run a few more marathons than me and now look, you'll be running your 40th. Very impressive.

You go Smoothie! :) I love your blog and I love that you are injury free and able to run! :)

Wow, already your 40 th marathon! I think I've been doing marathons for 8 years and I'm only in my low teens on marathons. You are amazingly resilient.

Yea Super Smooth. Whats it like to be coming up on 40 again?

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 09:29:41 from 152.26.230.60

You are such an inspiration to me! When I grow up, I want to be just like Smooth :-)

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 14:13:26 from 65.130.14.36

Nancy ~ thanks! The pool is only 3 ft deep and not quite regulation length but long enough to make it a good practice lap for me. I don't think I'll ever do a triathlon. I have too much phobia and skills to master. The "pretend to swim" is good for my legs. :)

Carina ~ thanks! I miss seeing you out running lately. You are going to rock SGM! :)

Toby ~ thanks for saying such kind words. You are so great! :) I can just picture the dinner conversation about my crazy silly marathoning must've had you guys shaking your heads and rolling your eyes! :) :) :) Hey, when are we going for a run together? I can't wait! Hope you're healing nicely! :)

Dale ~ time flies huh! Can't wait to see you run SGM!

Brooke ~ You ran an awesome post-baby debut half marathon on Sat. so so so happy for you! :)

Rhett ~ I "do" marathons while you "race" marathons, that's the big difference! :) Just grateful to be able to put one foot in front of the other albeit slow! :)

Slicker ~ thanks coach! You've run like over 50 marathons, haven't you? :)

QP ~ you are so dang cute! :)
