Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Ran with Wendy and Carolyn down and up 3rd West hill.  EZ 4 miler.  Saw Wendy C. at the end.  She's shooting for BQ (3:45) at SGM.  There are 8 of us from my ward running SGM this year.  FUN!!!

I'm searching for a Sat. marathon to run after SGM.  I found one, the Hoover Dam Marathon, on Halloween.  It's at Lake Mead in Nevada.  Anyone interested?

Aren't you going to take a break after SGM and let your body recover from the year? You are a machine and very amazing!

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:25:40 from 97.117.81.161

Maurine ~ Hi There! How are you? I will take a break during the Holidays. I missed DNews and TOU this year; so UVM and the Hoover Dam will suffice, I guess. I was going to run Valley of Fire in November; but it's on the same day my grandbaby is coming. I run these easy though, not impressive at all.

From Huans32 on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:28:51 from 138.64.2.76

Hmm that one sounds like a fun one to do. But if I was going to pick another marathon to race. It would be the CIM one in like Dec. Your a racing machine Smooth.:)

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:33:50 from 97.117.81.161

Mark ~ Nah, not racing machine, just running fool. I only race the ones that matters to me. The CIM is a great BQ marathon. However, I have chosen to not run on Sunday. That's just me! I know, kinda miss out on all the GREAT marathons!

From Huans32 on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:38:04 from 138.64.2.76

Yeah I hear you. That would be the only one I would be considering right now. But that is only if I don't BQ. Even then I am not sure I will be wanting to race another so soon. Kind of tring to race smarter this year.

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:43:12 from 97.117.81.161

Mark ~ You will BQ at SGM! You have worked so hard and trained so well and smart this year. I am rooting for you!

From Jon A on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 13:08:37 from 67.214.249.195

Smooth, you are awesome. WOW. Is that marathon a BQ'er? If things don't work in SG for me I will be looking to get into another and try again.

Mark, you will BQ in SG!

From AmberG on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 13:09:16 from 64.255.88.235

Hi there my dear SMooth! How are you? I love that I drive you crazy w/ my 9.17 mile runs!!! You are OCD!! :) , , , I would love to round the miles up as well but for #one: I only have a certain amount of time and if that means I get an extra .17 in then great, I am usually rushed to get home and get my son off to school, , ,and #two reason is because it's driving you crazy :) :) SO this morning I got home and my watch said 12.48 miles and I was LATE, , , BUT I laughed and thought of my SMooth and ran down my driveway to get 12.5! (It actually said 12.51, so I really can't win here, but I posted 12.5 just for you girl!) LOVE YOU and your quirks, , , , !!! hee hee, you really aren't quirky just funny!

BTW I am serious I think I would LOVE to run the Halloween marathon w/ you!!! I was thinking of flying out to Baltimore and running that Sat marathon Oct 10 and visiting my Sis out their but I think it's too close to SG. I need something to look forward to after SG just to ease my mind so count me in!! I think I'll search it and sign up soon. Let me know if/when you sign up! THanks!!! Hope you have a great week! You are amazing!!!

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 13:26:35 from 97.117.81.161

Jon ~ I don't think that's a BQ'er. It's in Boulder City, NV at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area put up by Calicoracing. They also do Run With an Angel, Run with the Devil, ET Midnight Run. All in Nevada, very interesting. It's more of a fun marathon than racing.

Jon, you will BQ at SGM!!! However you should be honeymooning, not looking for another marathon. :)

Amber, cute girl!!!

THANK YOU for running down the driveway to round up the numbers just for me...Whew! I can relax now! LOVE YOU!

I saw that Oct 10 marathon in Baltimore. MAN! If I had a sister or child out there, I would run that baby. I was going to run Kansas City on Oct 17 so I could see my grandbaby (3 hrs from DesMoines). But since her mommy is bringing her to Utah in Nov. I opted out of that. Besides, it IS a little too soon from SGM.

The Hoover Dam is so close, 20 min. from Las Vegas. You can totally drive there and be back for your kid's trickatreating. Check it out on www.calicoracing.com

The next fee registration date is by Oct 18 for $90. I will register after SGM. It will be cool to have you run that one.

Nice run Smooth! Love your enthusiasm for the marathon, I think I may be done for the year :)

From marion on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 18:02:22 from 71.213.124.121

Man girl- you are AMAZING! One more marathon?? Holy cow! Lake MEad sounds SO nice :) The weather should be WONDERFUL!!!

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 18:05:58 from 97.117.81.161

Marion ~ There's a HALF marathon as well. You wanna come?

From marion on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 18:11:44 from 71.213.124.121

That is`SO tempting. Lets see what Brady says tomorrow :)

From Rhett on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 18:57:55 from 74.32.218.117

That is near my neck of the woods. I may consider doing that one if my foot is feeling better and I can get some base milage built up by then. I've done "Run with an Angel", that is a brutal course but a well put on event.

From Nancy on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 22:30:16 from 76.27.11.127

Either you must really love running marathons or you are addicted. You are one awesome runner.

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 22:43:21 from 97.117.81.161

Rhett ~ That will be so cool if you run this in your neck of the woods. How's the temp at the end of Oct there? It's in the Mohave Deseret, imagine no shades. Sounds like the Calicoracing people put on good events?

Nancy ~ You are right on both accounts. I love running marathons and I am addicted. My hubby doesn't think I'm an awesome runner. He calls me a running fool.

Smooth, Josse and everyone else that live close to PG, Orem, Salem etc.... to St. George. Look up email address intermountainlive.org and click on 18 day challenge. Lori Hutchingson is running a marathon everyday for 18 days from Idaho/Utah border to Arizona border. She will be running the SGM as well (the 17th day of the challenge). She starts today at 9 am at the Purple Turtle in PG and will be running to Salem. She is on her 6th marathon (Day 6) raising awareness/money for amputees. Her good friend got a staph infection and lost both her legs and an arm. She used to run with Lori. Inspiring story. I plan on running with her for one to two miles before going to bed this am. I am currently at work. Pass this on to every runner. How amazing!!

From JulieC on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 08:55:29 from 65.103.255.114

PS she invites anyone to come run with her along her journey to the boarder.

From Kathie on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 11:56:08 from 63.248.105.188

Smooth my old body will be resting after St. George I am not sure where you get your energy!

From Rhett on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 12:57:11 from 74.32.218.117

"How's the temp at the end of Oct there? It's in the Mohave Deseret, imagine no shades. Sounds like the Calicoracing people put on good events?"

Smooth, the temps will be perfect in the morning, probably mid 60s, but the wind is anyone's guess. It can get really windy that time of year. And yes the Calicoracing people do a good job putting on their events.

From LuzyLew on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 14:21:30 from 208.187.197.42

The one over Hoover Dam sounds neat, but the wind that time of year in that area can be crazy. If I live through another SGM with any grace, we'll see about it. Tapering always makes me nervous and I can't think beyond the marathon. I did hear about the nurse running the 18 day challenge. Man, I'm a wimp. Maybe we should all be taking up collections for every mile we run in races and donate the money to research! You'd have raised a half a million dollars by now! I'd sponsor you!

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 14:58:41 from 97.117.81.161

Julie ~ I didn't see your post until too late. Well, I live in Lehi, she would have run past here yesterday. Darn it, I would have love to run a couple with Lori. I have heard a lot of amazing things about her. She is my hero! WOW! So how was your run with her this morning? The last I checked she was somewhere in Orem. What an inspiring person!

Kathie ~ I am not sure either!

Rhett ~ Thanks for the info. Hmm, wind is like an invisible wall,,,I will see how I recover after SGM before signing up.

Luzy ~ What an excellent idea! Lori is a GREAT runner and person! Taper time drives me crazy too, that's why I start looking for "what's next"! I didn't know about the Mohave Desert wind! I don't do well in wind unless it's tailwind! :)
