Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

My legs were sore last night so I did some yoga and foam roll before bed time.  Up early but had some clitches with car scheduling, didn't make it out the door till 6:45.  Then messed around with the Garmin once I got to the track.  By the time I started the warm up, it was already 7:15 and the sun is up!  WK 9 speedwork calls for 2x(6x400m@1:51) (1:30 RI) (2:30 RI in between sets).  It didn't happen as planned.  I was getting tired by the 6th interval so decided to make 8 and call it good.

Warm up: 2 miles in 17:26 (AP: 8:43)

lap 1 @ 1:39 (too fast, the football guys were watching!)  RI @ 1:37

lap 2 @ 1:47 (this is hard!!) RI @ 1:31

lap 3 @ 1:48 (why am I doing this?) RI @ 1:36

lap 4 @ 1:52 (how many more intervals to go?) RI @ 1:28

lap 5 @ 1:50 (yes, hitting the planned pace finally!) RI @ 1:40

lap 6 @ 1:31 (self destruct, still have another set of 6 to go!) RI @ 1:30

Getting HOT...Feeling spent, made the decision to do two more and be done with.

lap 7 @ 1:52  RI @ 1:28

lap 8 @ 2:01  RI @ 1:30

2 mile cool down, (AP 8:30)

Off to take my nephew and his family to the Church Adm. Office to be set apart.

From Bec on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 19:10:14 from 67.177.35.60

Nice speed in the sun today. That track gets so dang hot. I bet the Xcountry girl were impressed.

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 21:30:57 from 71.32.234.135

Kathie,

The track was particularly hot at our high school because the football field in the middle is artificial turf which has black rubber base making it hotter.

I love GA runs. Shook hands with several of the GAs today.

Jun,

THANKS!

Leandra,

Thanks you! That's very kind of you.

Julie,

You're the tough woman. I wimp out when the temp gets close to 80. Unlike you running in the heat of the day after working night shifts.

Jeff,

My nephew is from H.K. He was set apart by Elder Hallstrom of the First Quorum of Seventy to serve a full time mission. His mother and siblings are here for the summer. He was attending BYU. Elder Hallstrom was the Area Authority and knows the family so it was arranged for him to be set apart in his office today. His dad came to run the DNews Marathon. They will drop him off at the MTC and go back to HK.

Teena,

Take notes? Ya right! I just hope I didn't embarrass my son who's the team captain.

It was a wonderful day. We took pictures at Temple Square before going up to Church Admin. Office. Larry, Gary and Elder Hallstrom set Chris apart. He spent almost an hour visiting with us. Then we went to a nice Chinese restaurant for a late lunch before heading back to Orem. LLL LLL LLL LLL

Rachel,

My left quads are still sore when I lift my leg.

I didn't really pay attention to the football guys doing their drill runs in the field. But at one point, they were lined up by the goal post and when I finished one of my intervals they clapped. May be that was their signal to change work out. But I like to think that they were congratulating me.

Bec,

Yes that artificial football field made the track extra hot. It was made worst when the soccer field grass was being mowed. The gas fume, the smell of cut grass almost gave me asthma.

The Xcountry girls weren't there. But the soccer girls were and also a youth sport camp. They were just getting started when I was leaving.

Smoothie, I'm positive they were clapping for you. You did awesome. Keep it up!!!

From fonz on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 02:19:34 from 98.202.5.118

Wow. Nice workout. What training program are you doing?

From Huans32 on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 12:33:44 from 138.64.2.76

Great job on the tough run. I actually like the 400s more then others. Looks like you had a workout just like mine. Only hitting the 8. But its all good.

From Smooth on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 14:40:14 from 71.36.75.185

Dale,

Never know with high school boys! How was your doc. visit? Hope you have good news. Going over to your blog now.

Amber,

Hadn't even seen him all day and night. You HAVE to enjoy your boys when they are little and stay underfoot.

Fonz,

I use the FIRST training program from RW's book titled Run Less Run Faster by Bill Pierce, Scott Murr and Ray Moss. I have used Hal Higdon, Pete Pfitzinger with good results. Thought I try something different this time.

Mark,

I felt better after finding out you did 8 as well. Mentally I just wasn't up to doing 12. I was a bit self-conscious with all those young kids at the track, I guess!
