Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Nice short run with friends. Your breakfast sounds yummy.

From RAD on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:19:36 from 67.166.99.8

Isn't it nice to have a day out just with friends? No goal pace or miles...just a good friendly run!! YOUR THE BEST!!!

From rhett on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:20:35 from 74.41.249.102

Hey I almost had the same breakfast...yogurt, Kashi cereal, blue berries, fish oil pills, 16 oz water.

From JulieC on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:28:58 from 71.35.212.223

I have got to try your ab workout!!! And you reminded me I got to go buy some vitamin C. Do you know the recommended amount to take and are yours chewable? Have a relaxing day!!

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:32:35 from 71.36.82.104

Kathie,

The run was done before the talking was. So much to get caught up.

Rachel,

You always work out with friends. That's a real blessing in itself.

Rhett,

What are you having for lunch? I have never had fish oil pills. But I try to eat fish at least once a week. I think I'm gonna make me a lunch of boiled eggs, sweet potatoes, oranges, strawberries, milk, V8 juice and take my multi-vitamin. We're having dinner at an event at the Salt Lake Community College; not sure what's being served. For snacks I will have almonds and grapes. I need to somehow incoporate more veggies.

From rhett on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:44:33 from 74.41.249.102

Your lunch will put mine to shame. I don't usually eat one lunch meal. I pack stuff and eat throughout the day. Today I packed, a pear, a banana, an apple, some raw carrots, some rice with a little sauce, and some mixed vegtables.

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 13:48:09 from 71.36.82.104

That sounds real healthy on-the-go lunch to me! I like how you have so much good fruits and veggies. Where's the protein? May be you should keep a jar of peanut butter at work so you can use it as a dip with your carrots.

From RAD on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 14:55:01 from 67.166.99.8

okay...I need to butt in here :) Smooth, I've just found THE BEST way to make sweet potatoes!!! You slice them thin (like with a mandolin) then bake or broil them in the oven with olive oil and a little salt...THEN put cinnamon and a tiny bit of sugar on them....mmmmmmm to die for!!! If you have the time or patience you ought to try it!!

From jun on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 15:01:42 from 66.239.250.209

Um, I ate Taco Time for lunch and had a very large cinnamon roll that work provided for breakfast.

I could die of a heart attack today.

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 15:08:55 from 71.36.82.104

Rachel,

What is a mandolin? I have an egg slicer but I think that's too small for the potato. That sounds real yummy. Whenever I eat at Texas Roadhouse. I always order the sweet potato with the cinnamon butter. Now you show me the healthier version. I'm gonna do that for my family.

jun,

:-D Heart-attack food is SO good, it's to die for! ;-)

From rhett on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 16:30:10 from 170.215.58.122

Usually I do have some almound butter on wheat bread, but I just didn't today. I get most my protein with breakfast and dinner.

From MrsFIT on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 16:38:50 from 205.127.70.66

All this talk about food is making me HUNGRY!!!!

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 16:42:55 from 71.36.82.104

For some reason, Rhett likes to talk about food when I blog. He's always hungry. Now you too? MrsFIT?!! I'm gonna eat some grapes right now!

From leslie on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 17:01:40 from 76.23.61.78

Nice easy fun run! Tell Wendy hi!

I love all this healthy food talk, I am getting into it pretty darn good. This is my 3rd day for a green smoothie! Yum! Collard greens, spinach, flaxseed, cucumber, mixed frozen berries and a frozen banana!!!

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 17:10:15 from 71.36.82.104

Julie,

I just saw your post. The EmergenC I take is in powder form. It fizzes in water and comes in Tangerine flavor. I take the EmergenC with joint health formula. You can get them in WalMart where they stock vitamins. The only vitamins I take is one-a-day for women and one Calcium + D. I have osteoporosis.

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 17:12:09 from 71.36.82.104

Leslie,

Wendy is training for SGM. Your green smoothie sounds so healthy, great way to get the greens in. I should really try it.

From RAD on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 18:38:14 from 67.166.99.8

Smooth, maybe I'm not using the right word...I use a slicer thing that slices SUPER thin pieces as you run the potato across the top so it ends up in a 'chip like' state. Does that makes sense?

here is a pic

From Smooth on Wed, May 06, 2009 at 19:16:49 from 71.36.82.104

I need one of those gadgets. I do so much cutting and slicing. Does Bed Bath & Beyond hav'em?
