Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Can't believe it's been a week since Boston.  How time flies!  A year ago this time I was on my way to see my new grandbaby in Texas.  I can't wait to see and hold my new grandbaby in Iowa.  These two baby-cousins were both due on May 10, a year apart.  In years to come, I'll have to take them to Boston to celebrate their birthdays and to cheer their Nana!!!

A beautiful morning for a run, a bit on the cool side, perfect race weather.  T.35 sunny, slight breeze, wore l/s top and condition tights.  Ran same route as Sat.  Felt great. 

8 miles in 1:08:15.  AP: 8:32.  Splits:  8:55, 8:42, 8:18, 8:08, 8:23, 8:30, 8:41, 8:34

Off to lunch with Olga and Wendy.

Hey smooth I am starting to think you are not human...is there a pod that you sleep in at night? Is the mother ship going to pick you up soon? All I can say in a human couldn't do those splits so soon after such a great race.

I was sore for couple days. Gary was prancing down the stairs at the subway couple hours after the race. He's 48 and ran a 2:58 time, never slept a wink and jet-lagged back to HK 15 hours later. Now, that's speedy recovery.

I don't know what got over me. I just ran what felt good. Lunch at Zupas was great.

Maurine,

I learned something new about carb-loading before race. I was not eating often enough with my other races. This time my BIL's example of carb-loading made me fuel up more. He also taught me to keep stretching constantly after the race and eating immediately after really helps with recovery.

What are you talking about? You ran an awesome 22 miler faster than my Boston pace. Hey, I'm up for Sat. run. Let me know. How many are you doing, when and where?

I had major sleep deficit days before the race. I more than made up for it for days after the race. I've been sleeping like a baby. Nope, no pod, I promise I'm human...a nut job...but very human. BTW, I'm running WBR. Had to folk out $112 to the team captain. That's like $10 a mile...I'm gonna make every yard of that run worth my $ ~ slow and easy...oh and CRAZY!

I knew you'd change your mind about Boston. Yeah, put the clock back on...358 days to go! Better send in your hotel reservation now. Go to the BAA website and print out the lodging form from Marathon Tour & Travel. I have Radisson as my first choice. You'll be glad you did come April 19, 2010.

Not as fun as last year...I went to Texas after Boston, came home to run Ogden, then went to Hawaii after Ogden. Had all the kids home for a month in the summer. Crazy fun! This summer will be more running and a little less traveling.

I'm up for Lehi on Sat - it seems to be a good middle point, maybe 7 ish? I just need to be on my way home by 9. I'm only planning on 14 I think - I'm trying to do high mileage for the week, but no LONG run (like 8-10 per day). I'm good with anything :)

I loved all of your posts from last week. I was in tears reading about the last .2 miles. I always say that .2 is the hardest of the race--and the most meaningful. I loved that you did the elliptical and treadmill in your swimsuit and crocs. You are so hilarious. Thanks for posting all the fun stuff you did while in Boston. I have friends there and visit every summer. Maybe one day, I'll be there to run the maraton! Or maybe if I don't make it, I'll go anyway so you can take me to chinatown and show me what yummy stuff you ate in your childhood. Thanks again for posting, I loved the whole week of entries.

We sure had fun. We used to take turn making lunch at each other's houses. Olga is a non-member from Mexico. She makes the best Mexican food. Wendy would make American and I would make Chinese. Olga's husband finished school and works from 3-11pm now; so we decided it's easier to go out for lunch while he tends their baby and toddler.

My son and his little family live in Ankeny, it's just north of Des Moines. He's a marathoner, going to Podiatry school.
