Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

When I went to bed last night, the legs and left foot were still sore.  Hubby was up early to go to the 6am temple session.  I debated what to do.  I couldn't go back to sleep.  Saw that there was no rain and not too cold (T. low 40's).  Bec's counting on me to pick her up.  What the heck, I got dressed, ate breakfast, and did a few stretches and was warm enough to wear shorts.  Picked up Bec at 6:40 and arrived to the Porter Rockwell Park at 7:00.  Didn't see anyone other than one lady who kept smiling at us (who turned out to be Metcalf).  Sorry to see a text message from Marion that she's up all night with sickness.  Maurine arrived, then Kelli, Rachel and Heidi showed up.  They have already run 6.  Maurine gave us a "run-down" of the parkway lay-out.  Off we went.

Rachel and Bec lead the pack, Heidi and Kelli were the middle pack, Metcalf and I stayed at the back of the pack while Maurine ran up on the equestrian trail.  It was fun talking and soon we're running up to the base of Traverse Mountain.  The parkway took us up to the point of the mountain for 5.6 miles where we turned around.  We got back to the park where there were families of Easter egg hunters.  Rachel and I ran around the park at the end for another mile.

I'm glad I went.  The calf muscles were a little tight on the way down at around mile 8; but otherwise it was a nice recovery run.  THANK YOU Metcalf for helping make the miles go by so fast.  I would have been lost without you since I'm severely directional challenged.  It was so fun chatting with you.

Kelli brought us yummy Kneaders sugar cookies in the shape of bunnies.  Rachel brought us orange juice.  What a treat after a fun run with friends!  Kelli presented Bec and I bags of Boston Baked Beans for good-luck send-off.  THANKS, KELLI!!!  WHAT AN AWESOME, THOUGHTFUL FRIEND!  You girls are the sweetest, nicest running friends ever!!!!  It was a perfect taper run on a perfect day!

Smooth - good to see all of you speedy runners. I hope you had a great time together today. The weather sure cooperated for us - didn't it?

Good luck in the rest of your taper.

How fun... It sound like you guys have a party every week and then throw in a training run for fun.

From Bec on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 13:33:34 from 67.177.35.60

That was so fun today, and really relaxing, thank you. Thank you for picking me up and sharing your happy spirit with me. I can't believe that we only have 9 days until the big race day. Don't be nervous, you will be amazing at this race! You will BQ and PR, I have a feeling.

From Kelli on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 14:12:08 from 71.219.84.191

Yup, you will do great! I know it!!! It was great to see you one more time before the race. I am looking forward to it and I am not even going!!! Have a wonderful rest of the day.

Can you believe how close Boston is??? Oh Smooth ... I am getting so excited for you. Was talking to Ryan last night about you, Lowell, and Terry running together!!! HOW FUN!!!! Seriously, don't forget to take lots of pics!!

Sounds like you had a GREAT recovery run today as well. Can 12.15 miles truly be a recovery run??

I just love you. Take it very easy now ... okay??

Oh yeah ... the kids are out of school on Monday. We'll figure something out.

Maurine,

THANKS for hosting this run. I always feel bad that we don't get to run WITH you. So GLAD the weather co-operated. It would be SWEET if Boston has weather like this morning. You WILL BQ and run Boston before you know it.

Kathie,

That's why I look forward to Sat. run to be with these awesome friends. Yep, it's truly FUN RUN...we know how to party. You should join us one of these days.

Bec,

THANKS for coming. You're gonna do FANTASTIC at Boston. This is the year where you're gonna PR in every race. You have the talent and the dedication. I'm nervous for Boston 'cause I have a time goal; but either way I'm happy just to be there.

Kelli,

I count you as one of my greatest blessings. I LOVE YOU!!! Can't wait for you and Scott to run Boston next year. Have fun at the SL Half. I will be thinking of you.

Teena,

I don't know if I can keep up with Lowell and Terry. They run 7mm pace. But just having the "guardian angel" there close by will surely calm my nerves.

Yeah, that's what Larry said: how can 12.15 be a recovery run. He really worries about me not knowing when to stop. I'm gonna take it easy the next week so all the dings and dangs get a chance to heal.

I'm good with having the kids too. You figure it out and let me know...can't wait! LOVE YOU!

Smooth, I am so stinkin' excited for you!!! I was so glad I got to finish off with you around the park. You are doing such a great job, I hope to be as strong and SMART a runner as you are. You are an amazing woman!!!

From MarcE on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 21:54:28 from 206.225.68.108

Yeah, Smooth..you got your last long run behind you! It's "take it easy time". Your runs sound like such a party. You and your buddies have something special. How cool is that to have a bunch of friends to run with and breakfast afterwards! I'll see you next Saturday. NO HIGH-HEELS FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS..PLEASE!!!! YOU'VE COME TOO FAR AND TRAINED TOO HARD NOT TO GIVE YOURSELF A GREAT SHOT AT A BPR!!! (ok, no more yelling...see you soon)

From Rhett on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 22:24:55 from 216.67.216.116

Sounds like a great run. One week from now we'll be at the Sox game. I can't wait!!
