Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

so, are you tapering?? You just keep getting faster and faster and I can't figure out when those cute legs of yours are ever going to get a break! You had an awesome run this morning, keep up the good work and you'll blow your PR out of the water at Boston!!! Wasn't it a beautiful morning?? Yea for good weather!

From Smooth on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 14:45:46 from 71.36.85.29

Yes, it's a gorgeous day. Gotta enjoy it while it lasts. I am tapering on mileage wise. Tempo runs are still important this week. There's not a whole lot to improve upon; just sharpen the runs a bite. No, I don't want "a break" to my legs. ;)

Nice strong run to build some confidence here before the big day. I hope that knee doesn't bother you any. Rest it.

Dear Smooth,

Are you tapering? Every week I try to keep up with you mileage wise. This week I don't think I can do that. Are running 12 on sat at the JRP? I would love to join you.

Nice pace girl! You really are amazing and are going to fly up Heartbreak hill!

From Smooth on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 21:50:59 from 207.200.116.138

Rhett,

The knee feels great. I seem to feel some aches after running the hill then they go away a few minutes later. I do need to do more yoga stretches and avoid sitting too much later in the day.

Bec,

Yes, I am tapering I will run 12 miles on Sat. We are meeting some bloggers on the Porter Rockwell Parkway in Draper on 12300 South 13th East at 7 am. Check Maurine/Tarzan's post on Sunday for direction. We can drive up together if you like.

Kelli,

I HOPE I know what I'm doing. Your BBK workouts are great.

Amber,

Thanks, I don't know about flying up. I just don't want to walk Heartbreak.

From Bec on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 10:37:02 from 205.123.38.98

Smooth, I want to ride up with you on Saturday. I can't wait to do that 12 miler. It will motivate me to not sleep in.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 12:14:28 from 70.56.102.54

Nancy,

Yes, you were that nice lady with a great dog. Hope your hamstring is healing well.

Bec,

K, I'll pick you up at 6:40. You can help me find the park. It will be a fun last Sat. group run before Boston.

Oh Smooth,

I wish I could come so badly. I am feeling so frustrated. Trying not to ... but I am.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 12:32:25 from 70.56.102.54

Teena,

I wish you could come too. It's killing me to think what you're going thru. Please hang tough, heal well, eat well, stay calm and cool. I LOVE YOU!!! Think of the great run you will have once you're 100% healed and we will have a most fantastic race in SGM and Boston 2010. LOVE YOU!!!!

From Teena on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 12:36:38 from 67.177.20.13

Thanks Smooth! I'm really trying to stay positive. Some days are better than others. School has me stressed and I really want to run. Called to see why they haven't called to schedule my MRI and bone density test yet. Got a message that said that the "referral specialist is extremely busy and will likely be calling to schedule all appointments within 48 hours." Also, last night I was playing basketball with the kids, mostly just shooting around, and I did something, have no idea what, that caused a lot of pain in my right leg (from the fractured site to the knee). I just feel very frustrated. I decided to take today off from even crosstraining ... but am thinking that might have been the wrong decision. I just don't know what the right thing is to do.

Thank you for your welcome! Peaks yes are in Washington, the Cascades. Beautiful there! I will need some luck along with all my sweat and tears to qualify, but you are right it will be worth it! Not easy, but worth it! Thank you!

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 12:44:24 from 70.56.102.54

Teena,

I'm so sorry about your right leg from last night playing. Dang it! Does it hurt to walk on it? Does it hurt to bike? If it hurts, stay off crosstraining. Not knowing is the worst. It's so frustrating to not get the answers from doctors. I hope they can schedule the MRI soon and a good radiologist to read the result. I am praying for you. I'm taking your name to the temple. I LOVE YOU!
