Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Took one of the iPods for this run.  Thought there would be Church music, instead they're sound track to Pirates of the Carribeans.  Made me missed my missionary boy!  That was his favorite movie music.

I'm smiling thinking about you running with an ipod listening to Pirate music!!! :)

See you soon!

From Andy on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 13:41:37 from 199.190.170.21

That is a good sign that you felt well enough to run each mile faster. Good luck with your long run tomorrow.

From Kelli on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 14:08:30 from 71.219.89.155

Hope you two have FUN!!!

Smooth, my kids love that soundtrack, too. Nice run.

From LuzyLew on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 16:03:46 from 208.187.197.42

Wayt to get carried away in the music. That's a sweet reminder of your 'priate' missionary.

After reading through your week so far I am stunned! Lots of miles, speedwork , quality, WOW! You are one hard worker!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 17:51:23 from 198.241.217.15

I just looked at your whole week's entries and discovered that you're in the last week of Mesocycle 3. Great work!

Not that you're nearly at the end of it, what are your thoughts about this training plan? Do you like it? Do you feel like it has helped you?

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 17:52:59 from 174.52.45.85

Kelli ~ We're wondering when we're going to Red Mango? Teena's working magic on my leg...ouch...but soooo good!

Andy ~ I fully expected the legs to be sore; but felt pretty good after 30 min.

Paul ~ Cool that you kids like that too. I love full orchestral music that sound exciting and upbeat!

Luz ~ Before he left on his mission, he played that piece in the orchestra. He'll be home the week after UVM! How's your run been going this week?

April ~ You're the hard working one here! One more long run and we're both gonna taper, right?

From RAD on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 17:59:09 from 67.172.229.125

aarrrggghhhh - hurricane a'comin'!! A hurricane of smoothie speedin' miles :)

Sounds like you enjoyed your painful and rewarding time with Teena. You two are too cute!!

From LuzyLew on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 18:02:15 from 208.187.197.42

I'll remember that next time I hear the piece. I rememberd it was orchestrated, but can't remember how it sounds. Music takes you places words can not. P.S. running's same old same old try and try again. Nothing fancy like over here. Keep on Keepin' on.

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 18:02:54 from 174.52.45.85

Carolyn ~ I like Pfitz's plan. I have used his 55/18 schedules for the last two Bostons with success. I used the PIRST program for SGM and found that I like running more than xtraining. So this cycle, I decided to experiment with higher mileage. I didn't think I could do the 70mpw schedule. I worry that an older runner like me, I'm 54, will have a harder time recover from the big miles. So far I'm adjusting to it okay. It does make me more tired; but I feel that my endurance has improved. I hope that translate to faster marathon finish time. The one thing I would incooperate in this plan is some hill work. I wish I had done more of it. I think we can be more creative with the MLR, ie. put in hills, run sets of 5Ks, mile repeats. But only do those every other week. Hope this is helpful. Tell me how you like his plan.

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 20:06:56 from 174.23.198.220

Kel ~ Oops! I didn't see your post until I got home just now. Dang, we could have met at Red Mango!!! Sure miss you!

Rachel ~ You are sooo funny! Seriously we were laughing so hard at your comments on Burt's blog about Teena. My belly is still hurting!

From Kelli on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 at 20:34:43 from 71.219.89.155

I did not post it until like 4, so I am sure it was too late anyway! But it sure sounds good!

Pirates of the Caribbean; I just can't recall the music for that one! Very funny, but it sounds like it worked out ok.
