Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Karen's text woke me up & asked if I was doing speed work!  Today's schedule calls for 11 mi w/ 6 x 1,000m @5K race pace.  Quickly got ready and Ran to Karen's and did our usual loop together (6 miles).  She only needed 5 miles.  After dropping her home I did not feel like doing speedwork so I ran down on 3rd West to the rail Trail and loop back up home.

I wanted to run some hilly miles at marathon pace.  Mile 8 was downhill on which the knee held out okay.  The last 4 miles were all uphill.  Coughing a bit.  Did not have a single drop to drink or eat other than the EmergenC before leaving the house!  T was in the high 30s, partly cloudy with a slight breeze!  Felt really good about the run.

I seriously have no idea how you pull out these runs when you are having issues with your knees and coughing and just general craziness with everything! You are one tough lady Smooth. I'm glad the knee feels good. Do you like the emergen-C in the morning? I need to find something easy and fast for mornings, my body just dies when I have no fuel!

Wow! Great miles for the week. I am sorry that you are feeling so great. Feel better.

RAD ~ I always drink EmergenC first thing in the morning. I usually have a yogurt or banana before my run especially if the run is longer than an hour. Today's run was not my norm. I was getting quite dehydrated at the end.

When you're a nursing mother, you HAVE to eat something or at the least drink your carb. EmergenC has no carb in it. So I wouldn't rely solely on that! :)

Keep positive and healthy.

I am so glad you felt good about the run today. With 4 weeks to go now and most of the hard stuff behind you I hope your body can catch a break and get better. Thanks again for everything! See you soon.

WOW! That is an AWESOME run. You kicked major trash those last seven miles!!! So happy for you. This has got to be a huge confidence booster for you! :) :) :)

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 23, 2011 at 16:27:27 from 67.2.105.240

Paul ~ Will do! You too!!!

Luz ~ Yep, this week is the last push; then taper the next 3 weeks. I am ready for a break.

Are you all packed and ready to head for the party at D.C.?

SSF ~ I haven't done any real speed work this cycle. I just wanted to see if I could maintain some decent pace going uphill. I am very nervous about the Newton hills and of course the last torturous miles on the back side of Heartbreak. Really, I do not feel confident at all. But I will do my best to stay positive.

I just got an email from B.A.A. saying there will be no deferment this year. So looks like I have got to go get this done. I love you too! So happy you are enjoying your Spring Break!

Kelli ~ THANKS!!! I am getting excited about your big day...3 more days! Yahoo!!! :)

Kathie ~ So, are you still planning to run with us on Sat.? I sure hope so! :)
