Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Warm (48F), sunny, windy.  Ran 2.25 for warm up, then 6 x 800 m at 5K pace with 400 m recovery jog in between, cool down for 2.25.  Interval #3 was the hardest heading into the south wind.  The last 2 miles home was torturous running into the invisible wall of headwind and achy legs.  9 miles in 1:21:04.  AP: 9:00.  Splits:  9:18, 8:55, 8:18, 8:25, 8:32, 9:17, 8:57, 9:43, 9:35.

Felt so good to get 6 Yassos done.  I hope I can eventually run 10 of them.  Was in such a hurry to get the workout done that I didn't do the Dynamic Flexibility Exercise before the run or any stretching after the run.  Will need to stretch good tonight with Yoga if I have time.  Going to the Nordstrom Grand opening Gala tonight.

Did the push up challenge last night: 36, 40, 30, 24 (41).  It was not pretty.  Did 3 chin ups this morning and felt strong.

Smooth, wow, those splits look GREAT!!You are such a strong runner...I don't think I could push myself that hard, that's why I give up sleep to meet the BBK's because they help me push myself. Stretch well tonight after the Gala! I can't believe all those push-ups aren't pretty...well I guess you'd have to call guns like yours ROCKIN'!!

What a woman. Yasso's all morning and Nordstrom in the evening ;) Way too cool for words. I ordered 2 marathon books today, J. Daniels and Peter Pf...something. Hopefully I will learn some cool stuff as to not kill myself this fall. :D

Way to get the speed work done. What was your time on the Yasso's? Did it match up with your goal marathon time?

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 16:08:16 from 71.36.68.40

Rhett,

I hit those Yasso's between 3:57 to 4:02. So right about where they should be. I plan to add one Yasso a week and see if I can string 10 in a row by about first week of April.

3:57 that would put you right on pace to match your PR. I'm smelling a new PR for Smooth this year at Boston!!!!!!

Awesome job, Smooth! Wasn't that headwind wonderful :-) I like the 'invisible wall' as you called it.

Sorry to barge in on you Smooth, but Teena? are you going to continue this silent treatment? haha You can run but you cant hide. Or should I say you can Hide but your going to run right!?

From Teena on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 23:41:04 from 67.177.20.13

You're funny Walter.

It's not the silent treatment ...

I seriously was spending way too much time on the blog when I should have been studying. I have thought about enabling my blog and just forcing myself to get on only a couple of times a week ... but I don't know if I would have the willpower to limit myself like that! :)

From Marion on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 23:55:18 from 71.213.122.61

Teena- I have had similar problems :( I just have to blog my runs and get off, and then only spend another time later in the day (like 30 min tops) to check other blogs. The blogging is good, the comments are good, it just can't take up our whole lives :) I think everyone on here gets that.. I hope so :)

ok Teena, then dont respond back to this.

From Teena on Wed, Mar 04, 2009 at 09:56:35 from 67.177.20.13

Nice one Walter!

You know I HAVE to check Smooth's blog at least once a day! She's my hero. Seriously!! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 04, 2009 at 14:56:47 from 71.36.68.40

Leslie,

When hubby tells me about these "events", I always ask him what the dress code is. Usually it's business casual, black tire or resort casual. This Gala invite says: "Fashionably chic". What the heck is that? Anyway, I hate to get dressed up. I've never seen so many out-landish fashion last night. But sweet hubby said I was a head-turner; even the live menaguins (yes they were gorgeous models)turned their eyes following me as I pass. Yeah, right. They're probably thinking: "she needs a major work-over."

Rhett,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I think I'm pushing the envelope a bit here. I'll be happy to just BQ at Boston.

Tyler,

You nailed your awesome tempo run. I'm just hanging in there.

Teena, Walter, Marion and everybody else,

YOU are welcome to check on Teena on Smooth's blog anytime. We all miss Teena terribly. I have become a closet blogger!!! :D
