Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Spent the bulk of the morning with Beverly and Bob who has bone cancer and was supposed to have died over 2 years ago.  I always feel such love and peace in their home and go away with renewed gratitude.  There has been a lot of of illnesses and tragedies around my friends and associates lately.  I am so grateful for the ability to run and the Plan of Salvation.

Plan was to run up Suncrest.  Felt a sharp pain in my left knee at about 0.8 mile into the run.  Almost abandoned the run but decided to walk it off; then gradually resumed running.  Decided to cut across to Alpine instead of straight up Suncrest.  Turned out to be a good choice.  The rolling hills allowed my legs to use different muscles.  I didn't carry a fuel belt with me.  So it was good to have the "ever flowing" drinking fountain at the Alpine city park at mile 9, otherwise no drink or fuel.

Legs felt heavy and the run felt long.  Was hard to focus on any proprioceptive clue.  TT: 2:18:52.  AP: 9:44  (10:55 including the walk, 10:30, 10:13, 9:33, 9:53, 10:33, 10:45, 9:31, 8:55, 9:35, 9:36, 8:56, 8:54, 8:45, 8:21)

i love that ever-flowing fountain! that was our "magic fountain" at summer xc practices when i was in hs.

nice run today. take care of that knee.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 17:11:17 from 174.23.198.220

allie ~ Every time I drink from that magic fountain, I wonder where the water comes from and if it will ever dry up. Did you go to Lone Peak?

From Nancy on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 17:17:27 from 76.27.19.206

Great job running. I don't know how you can run so many long miles by yourself.

From RAD on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 18:20:51 from 67.172.229.125

Nice miles Smooth!! It's good to be flexible and take life as it's given to us. Such an inspiring lady - thanks for all YOUR 'ever flowing' inspiration!

From allie on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 18:27:56 from 98.202.24.36

yes, i went to lone peak.

the water is pumped directly from the fountain of youth, which of course is a never-ending supply of magic water!

From auntieem on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 18:41:17 from 67.182.146.94

This ever flowing fountain sounds great! Take care of your knee a bit. I love those rolling hills runs; they feel restful on the legs for some reason.

From JulieC on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 19:59:03 from 71.213.101.159

Smooth, what time do you run? We should run some of these "seemingly long shorter than long runs" together. Time flies when you have someone to pass the time with. I love the Alpine area so I am always game for a run up there and I am due for a drink from the fountain of youth : D. Suncrest Oh Suncrest!! It surely has been abandoned. We must conquer it again soon!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 22:18:35 from 174.23.198.220

Nancy ~ Some days are easier than others. Today was hard. Listening to my body whines made it even longer!

Rachel ~ THANKS for the encouraging words!

Julie ~ I have been running in the mid-morning lately...not motivated when the body is so tired. I do get out earlier especially when the temp. gets warmer. This morning I didn't get out until close to 11am. I have been giving my neighbor his Lovenox shots every morning between 8-8:15. He and his wife love to visit, so takes up a chunk of time. Hopefully his INR (Pro time) gets back to range and he doesn't need any more shots.

I'd love to have your company to pass the time and miles with. You will have to slow WAY down for me though. I'm so bummed that I haven't run Suncrest this year. I'm kinda worried about the downhill wrecking the knees before Boston. I will definitely run it to train for all the other Utah Marathons though.

That fountain of youth water tasted SO GOOD today. It's about 5 miles from my house. LOVE IT!

Way to stick with it! I live by Lone Peak - where is this drinking fountain?

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 22:30:23 from 174.23.198.220

Toby ~ The drinking fountain is on Main St. (the one straight north from Kohlers) and Center St., on the east side of the road next to the side walk right by the Park in Alpine. It has a stone structure surrounding it.

From Toby on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 22:32:09 from 216.194.124.36

Awesome! I'm going to find it when I'm back pounding the pavement!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 02, 2010 at 23:26:54 from 71.219.89.82

One day I want to come and run that with you---it scares me! Talk about hills....

You are so great to sit with the neighbors and help them out! Now that I have heard about them I can totally picture her coming to the door in all her regality and I can see the house!

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 02:35:40 from 75.162.73.244

Very nice miles again Smooth. Take care of that knee of yours, and have some chocolate already. :)

From vinh on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 07:05:19 from 75.77.22.187

Impressive run Smooth! Hopefully that knee pain was just a fluke!

From Rhett on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 13:23:43 from 74.41.249.102

When does your training plan start cutting back on milage, especially now that you're doing VO2 Max runs?

No wonder your legs are tired.

From Kathie on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 13:24:27 from 63.248.105.188

Another nice long run...you are doing great smooth! I can't wait to see you in a few days!

From Snoqualmie Ridge Runner on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 14:22:49 from 24.17.108.253

Wow Smoothy! You are an absolute running machine...what's the target time for Boston. You are probably going to CRUSH it the way you are running!! Nice work

From leslie peterson on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 15:19:59 from 174.52.158.81

It is hard to believe Boston is 7 weeks away. How many Bostons have you run? You are my inspiration!

From kellies on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 16:58:15 from 67.199.181.245

Awe Smooth, you are so awesome!! I love your message about sitting with your friends and what you are grateful for! Just what I needed for today, thank you!! Very nice job on the long miles today too. You are like a little energizer bunny, you just keep going and going! So proud of you!!

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 17:44:17 from 174.23.198.220

Kelli ~ You will love Suncrest. You are Queen of hills! If you run it w/ me, you will have to do ALL the talking. :)

Scott ~ I need to ice it. I keep forgetting.

Vinh ~ It's the same old nagging ITB, vastus medialus thing.

Rhett ~ It doesn't cut back until taper weeks. The wpm for the next few weeks look like this: 70, 64, 68, 57, 43, 28.

Kathie ~ I can't wait to see you in a couple of days. How's your leg feeling today?

Sno ~ THANKS for your vote of confidence. No specific target time, but here are the 3 goals: Satisfy - BQ (4:15:59) Happy - Sub-4. Ecstatic - PR (3:56:59)

Leslie ~ Thank you my friend. I've run 2 Bostons the last two years.

Kellie ~ Hi there! How are you? Are you all excited for Boston?

From Rhett on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 18:16:20 from 74.32.219.217

Smooth, you are amazing. I don't think my body would hold up to that kind of milage. I've been doing between 44 and 50 mile weeks, although this week will be a bit longer. I can't wait to see how all this exta milage improves your marathon time.
