Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

THANK YOU Kelli for spreading your kindness over my way!!!

Date night was carb-load dinner at home and dollar movie (Twilight) afterwards.  Sweet hubby told me our stocks took a nose dive into a bottomless pit so that's all we could afford for weekend entertainment!!!  He slept like a baby since he's going skiing while  I kept having nightmare of vampires and screaming Jr. High girls.

Picked up Bec and off we went to JRP.  It was like reunion seeing Kelli, Scott, Rachel, Jon and Allen there.  We stayed together the first mile or so, then the speedy guys took off.  Bec ran ahead after the guys.  At the turnaround mile 5 (drank 7 oz gatorade) we met and chatted briefly with a group of runners.  The return to the car is always my favorite part of the run.  Shed my jacket after taking a Gu and drink.

Headed south for 10 more.  It was fun chatting with Rachel and Allen.  The miles just flew by.  Kelli, Rachel and Allen turned around at mile 14 (they were doing 18).  I continued.  When I didn't see Bec and Scott at mile 15.25, I turned around worrying that Bec would have to wait for me at the car.  With one mile or so to go, Scott came speeding from behind.  He had already run over 22 miles.  That guy is amazing.  He's fast and strong.  When we got to the car,  I ran back to bring Bec in.  She had run 22 and felt like only 18.  She is so on target for Boston.

My goal was to do this 20 miler at AP of 9:30.   Ended up running 20.8 in 3:12:50 with an AP of 9:24.  The last 3 miles were 9:00, 8:43, 8:52.   Dare I say that it was a perfect day and perfect end to a great week?  I have never run this many miles in a week.  Hope I don't regret it down the road.  Feeling no aches and pain all week; hopefully stays this way with 8 more weeks to go before Boston.  Cold water soak for 15 min. and off to take son to the high school performance.

Dang stock market, I am about sick of watching all of my money disappear! But, what can we do but wait???

I did not get to talk to you much today. How does that happen with hours of running??? Anyway, THANK YOU for the chocolate. Scott was on the phone for a meeting the entire drive home (with our stock market guy, believe it or not) and I kept handing him chocolate. When he hung up he asked what kind of chocolate it was because it was GOOD!!!! It was a wonderful post run treat! THANKS for thinking of me, that was so sweet.

Have a great weekend!

Great distance for the day and week!

From Marion on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 16:16:02

What a fun run! This whole spring thing is catching on! I think it will be a big hit this year :)

Your miles are AMAZING! I am in WOW land!

From Bec on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 16:21:47

Hello MILES!!! I have never ran that much in a week. That will be my goal before Boston. Try to hit a 65 mile week. That is so many to me. You just make it effortless.

You are wonderful Smooth. Thank you so much for letting me join you on that adventure this morning. It was so motivating running with such a passionate group of athletes.

I would love to join you again. How many miles are you going to run next week? 80?

From Andy on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 16:58:25

Great run. Your training has been incredible and you are going to do great at Boston.

From Kathie on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 17:16:37

It looks like you are going to peak at just the right time! We are going to have a ton of great Boston race reports to read. I had better clear my schedule to read them all!

From leslie on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 18:22:31

Little girl you blow me away, I can't use my "old lady" excuses with you on the blog, you are amazing. 63 miles this week!!!!! Way to go!!!!!!!

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 18:39:17

Great job, Smooth. You seem to always have such great runs. How many more 20 milers do you have before Boston?

From Maurine/Tarzan on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 18:51:48

Wow - awesome miles today and this week. No wonder I didn't see any of you in Lehi - you were still running? I thought about you guys a lot as 7:30 passed, then as I passed the windmills and as I ran through Lehi.

From rhett on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 20:40:05

Wow Smooth! Great run and 63 miles this week. You are amazing. If you can keep this up you are going to rock Boston so hard. I can't wait to hear how you shattered you Boston PR after the race.

From Teena on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 22:22:23

Did I read that right? 63 miles this week!!!???!!! You stinkin' ROCKSTAR!!!

I am so happy to hear that you are having no aches and pains. My theory is that you have become rock solid and 100% muscle!!

You are the BEST!! And I truly mean that.

I love you!!

Congrats on a wonderful day and an incredible week!!! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!

Kelli,

Thanks for running back and forth to keep me going. You always make my run wonderful. Thank you for rubbing some of your goodness off on me. You and Scott are a GREAT couple!!! Wish you lived next door to me.

Cal,

Your mileage was awesome! I told myself I'm running extra for Teena.

Marion,

You had a fun run with Luz today. Isn't it great to have friends to run with? I don't think I could have done it without their/your support.

Bec,

You are a FAST runner. I'm glad you were able to have a good workout with the fast guys. Kelli & Co are such special people, aren't they?

You are so ready for Boston. I have maxed out my mileage. I won't run more than 50 next week.

Andy,

Thank you. Coming from you means alot.

Kathie,

I better have a good Boston story to tell now with your high expectation.

Leslie,

How was your beach vacation? Going over to your blog now.

Dale,

It always look good on paper for some reason. I don't know what's more fun, training for a race or the race itself. I have at least one more 20 miler (3 weeks out), two will be ideal, have to see how things go next month.

Maurine,

You had an awesome adventure today. We were on the JRP for over 3 hours. We thought about you alot. I can't imagine running thru all those cities alone. You are amazing.

Rhett,

I hope I wasn't being foolish running the miles this week. Pron8r would frown on it if he ever found out. But it sure was fun thinking I ran two half-marathons, two 10Ks and one 5K before the 20 miler all in one week. I like to think I'm running extra miles for Teena.

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 22:48:45

Teena,

I love you!!! I wish so so so badly that you could run just one mile with me. I miss you terribly. Pfitzinger says I'm supposed to run 55 this week. All those extra miles are for you.

100% muscle? Ya think? Then what's this squishy jelly around my mid-section? Soft pillow for my grandchildren, yah? Please please heal soon. I know you will. LLL LLL LLL LLL

From kellies on Sat, Feb 21, 2009 at 22:57:11

Wow, way to go Smooth! Great run today! And wow, look at those miles. Yeah, I think I have only hit a 60+ mile week like twice in my life. You are going to take names at Boston this year! Good job!

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 12:54:05

Kellie,

Thanks. Sure miss seeing you and Tyler. Hope you're enjoying your "spring" training.

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 13:56:54

Kelli and Co. I like my new name! We are nothing special alone, but we all rock together, huh?

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 20:58:47

Kelli & Co.,

Your specialness just oozes all over to those around you and that's what make those who take up your company rocks. :)

From MarcE on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 21:36:32

Smooth, 63 miles in one week is amazing! I think my personal best is about 55. I need to ramp it up if I'm going to hang with you at Boston. You're so fortunate to have some great running buddies to make the miles fly by! See you in 58ish days.

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 21:56:51

Marc,

I was supposed to max at 55. The extras are for Teena. We'll be hanging out alot IN Boston. You won't be hanging out with me AT Boston 'cause I'll be AT the Sweepers coral.

Thanks to Teena, I got on this blog and met some very nice friends who would run my snail pace with me. Up until this point I have done all my runs solo. Yes, very fortunate for me.

From DonGardinero on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 22:27:34

Smooth, you're WAY TOO modest. You do not run at a snail's pace.

From Rachel on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 23:14:30

Smooth- what a beautiful run! I was amazed when I saw you come in with a smile on your face and speeding to finish your 21! It just lit up my day. I'm glad to be apart of Kelli & co. they make running worth it. Hey, that might be a good slogan, hmmm?!? Thanks for the chocolate, I think I ate all the calories I ran off before I got home :) I hope that when I'm your age I can be as fit and wonderful as you are! If I run long enough with you, maybe some of that sweetness will rub off! Keep up the awesome work and you'll take boston by the horns and throw that bad boy down!! :)

From Marion on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 23:54:44

Smooth- I didn't go see Celion. We'll have to go together some time ;) We can make Larry and DAvid take us to a race near Vegas and go see her show. (although, we aren't great fans of Vegas.. pretty but creepy)

From fly on the wall on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 10:03:40

Very nicely done Smooth! For the day and the week. You're going to rock Boston!

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 23, 2009 at 16:52:49

Rachel,

It was a fun and beautiful run, thanks to you. We have to do it again so you can tell me how your running on the cruise deck goes. You're getting so fast and strong. You will have a HUGE PR at Ogden.

Marion,

You didn't? Well, I'm PROUD of you! Yes, we'll have to go to Vegas to see Celine and have those fabulous buffet. And we can run the strip in the morning when it's all deserted. That's the only stuff I like to do in Vegas.

Fly,

Thanks. I can't believe it's only 56 days 'till Boston. Wish you were going this year.
