Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What an absolutely gorgeous day!!!

Could hardly wait for the meetings and morning stuff to get over with; and when the luncheon got canceled; I was out of there.  T was 38F, sunny blue sky.  O how I wish there was someone special to run with!  Not to be, so it was just me and Celine Deon on the JRP.  (Speaking of Celine...we had tickets to her original Fall concert.  She got sick and re-scheduled it for 2/22, SUNDAY!   Of course my sweet wonderful hubby, (da man with principles), would give away the tickets!!!  O well!

Ran with Celine northward at a nice easy pace.  I saw a mama & papa duck swimming leisurely with their two ducklings on the river.  A slight breeze greeted me when I turned around going south.  Got to the car at mile 7.5, drank 12 oz gatorade and switched my running partner to Josh Groban.  Didn't bother to stop the Garmin as if in & out of an aid station.

This time I did the math right and turned around at the right mileage point.  On the south end of the river I saw a family of geese.  I think that's what they were.  They have long necks and bigger bodies than the ducks and make "honking" noise.  There were other birds too.  Didn't see any fox.  There were a few dog-walkers and good doggies.

13.1 mile in exactly 1:59:00.  AP: 9:09.  I love the number "9", in Chinese it sounds like longevity.  Today is 2/19 sounding like one easy long life.  Yes, life is good, every run should be this good.  :)

Oh, I did Day 2 Wk 3 Column 3 of pushup challenge: 20, 25, 15, 15 (max was nice...woohoo!)

You and Teena and your strong biceps! I can not make it through week two without pain, I will stay here for a while!

Great run, beautiful day, positive you! I love it. I wish my kids were all at school, I would come and run with you every day (although Celine sings much better, take my word on that one!)

We are running the Lehi JRP on Saturday again at 7:30----18 miles! Join us if you want to!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 19:00:48

Kelli,

I miss you!!! OK, I have plan to run with Bec who's coming home for the weekend. I want to do 20 or 21 (cause it's the 21st) so I'll see if she wants to join us at the JRP. I'm so excited.

From leslie on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 19:12:04

What a beautiful run!!! I haven't been on the JRP for a long time, that sounds so nice, duckies and Celine and Josh and beautiful scenery, doesn't get much better than that, and it sounds like you were feeling great too! Good luck on your Looooong run Sat. I hope you get to hook up with Kelli and the gang!

Look at all those miles you're racking up!!! Wow...What training program are you following? I always forget

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:16:56

Dale,

I'm using Pete Pfitzinger's 55/24 schedule as a frame work and "custom-fit" my own workouts as far as quality and intensity goes. This week is supposed to be 55mpw. I'm tweaking it a little and it'll be around 60 after Sat's long run.

From Marion on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:17:37

What a perfect day! :D My brother has tickets to Celine. His wife wont go with him and he invited me to go.

Your time was AWESOME!! You are too cool lady. Those push ups are FANTASTIC!!

From MarcE on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:18:16

Smooth, you're so inspirational! I could just picture me running along with you (and Celine) and the ducks and geese. Great runs. It's days like this that make it all worthwhile. And you got one thing wrong, you said "no foxes", there was at least one out there that I know of. ;-)

From Bec on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:19:03

Look at your miles girl! With the Saturday run you are going to pile those up this week!!! Congrats!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:34:58

Marion,

When I pout about Larry's giving away our Celine tickets. He said: "You're getting heathen on me." :)

You will have so much fun at the concert. Enjoy!

Marc,

You will have lotsa "foxes" hanging around you in your pace group at Cowtown, I'm sure! :) Can't wait to see you at Boston!

Bec,

Hey, I'm motivated to do 21 on Sat. now. Will you push, pull or drag me if I show any sign of slacking? BTW, I go real slow.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:54:14

Please, Smooth, you're not slow at all. What are you taking about? Look at those amazing half marathon distance runs you have been doing, going up and down the mountain.

From Marion on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 00:33:43

Smooth- My daughter is shocked and appalled that I am even considering it. David's keeping out of it, but I could see the shock in his eyes when I told him. Just tell Larry that we wouldn't want to go and be so perfect as to get translated ;)

From Bec on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 10:15:29

Smooth,

YOu might be doing the pushing and pulling. I am excited to run with you!

From Amber on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 14:24:45

Hey Smooth,, , WoW girlie!, look at your miles this week! You are amazing,,,and really racking up those miles. You'll be so ready for Boston, you may as well just run home after the marathon, cancel that plane ticket! lol BTW thanks for calling me out on the "slacker patrol", , my baby's room is also half office so this week has been crazy everytime I think to go blog he's sleeping. In fact he's here in his crib asleep right now, I'm just trying to type extra quietly , hee hee! Anyway, I've seen Celine in Vegas, she's amazing, but that's great of your hubby to keep the sabbath day, , , just tell yourself, "blessings in heaven, blessings in heaven". My husband reminds me of my blessings when I've had a hard day w/ the kidlins, my friend refers to it as, "you're building your mansion" Either way, it probably is the best choice and luckily you get to run w/ Celine whenever you want to! I've seen Josh too, love him, you've got great taste! Wow, sorry so long! :) Have a GREAT long run tomorrow!

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 15:07:24

Bec,

I'm looking forward to our run tomorrow.

Amber,

I don't know how you young mommies do all that you do. When baby sleeps, it's heaven, isn't it? I will remember: "blessings and mansions in heaven!" I am already very very blessed here on earth! THANK YOU, you're a sweetheart! Have a GREAT run today and tomorrow!
